The kid is 21 years old.. And he's second place for MVP right now. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/awards This kid is going to be legendary.
I didn't expect him to be this good, this fast. I'm looking forward to seeing what he's capable of when he hits his prime. The shooting shouldn't slip with age, and he's only going to get stronger and more savvy.
I'm admittedly one of the folks who had doubts about how well Durant would do in the NBA (I never really voiced them, but definitely had them). I didn't so much doubt his skills as much as I had concerns about his build and whether he'd be able to effectively (physically) go up against the kind of competition he'd face -- but he's absolutely erased my doubts. If he can keep improving his defensive game, he's got long-term superstar potential (and I don't typically like to use the term "superstar" lightly). I"m impressed by his development and transition to the NBA game, and his future indeed seems bright.
I always thought that Durant would be a stud but felt like Oden was the no-brainier. Boy was I wrong about that.
i really havent watched many games with durant but is he physical at all? i'd imagine he'd be eaten alive in the 90's, the way bball was played. guys like kobe/lebron wouldve been ok but i dunno about durant type players.
it doesnt matter how he would do in the 90's... the point is that he is 21 and he is 2nd in the running for MVP. hes wrecking everyone right.
Dam I feel for Portland, no one can really blame them for going with Oden but this is WORST case scenrio for those guys. Durant won't be Jordan but he'll be a great one and Oden is Bowie.
I know this is understatement and has probably been discussed ad nauseam elsewhere, but for those of us who remember (or study) the history pretty well, it's almost as though Portland has a curse in terms of drafting high-visibility, high-pick centers -- at least, during the years that I've been an NBA fan. Could have had Jordan, could have had Durant...but drafted they way they were supposed to given their needs each time with Bowie and Oden. In the very least, they've had very bad luck with two of the most highly-regarded centers they drafted. I don't want to feel TOO bad for Portland now, given that they're a current Western Conference opponent, but at the same time I DO feel bad for them -- just as I did back in the Bowie days. Back then, I think we all envisioned long-term Bowie-Olajuwon match-ups or Bowie-Olajuwon/Sampson match ups. Ahh, reality... Maybe Oden will make it over the long haul, but signs sure don't look good. And Durant? What a great (mostly lucky, by virtue of another team's choice) pick by Seattle/OKC.
One of my friends said it best. He might not be the strongest guy, but he's definitely not a soft player.
