Friday, January 12, 2001 Raptors close to mining Nuggets Trade could be done as early as today By CRAIG DANIELS -- Toronto Sun They've been down the road this far before and reached a dead end, but the Raptors and Denver Nuggets now appear inclined to pull off a multi-player trade, possibly as early as today. Coming this way would be shot-blocking forward/centre Keon Clark and perimeter shooter Tracy Murray, who played some of his best basketball as a Raptor during the Isiah Thomas era and has pined for a return to Toronto ever since. Headed to Denver would be Kevin Willis and little used former first-round draft pick Aleksandar Radojevic. "A potential trade could be imminent," a league source told the Denver Post yesterday. The numbers work nicely (the total salaries of players traded must match within 15%): Murray makes $3.06 million US this season; Clark $1.38 million for a total of $4.44 million. Willis makes $2.7 million; Radojevic $1.43 million for a total of $4.13 million. "I'm not going to confirm or deny (a trade)," Nuggets vice-president of basketball Dennis McGowan said last night. Raptors senior vice-president and general manager Glen Grunwald had much the same to say. "I make no comments on trades," he said. Several sources, however, are of the opinion that both teams are close to agreeing to a deal. It's possible the delay is being caused by the Nuggets needing medical evidence that Radojevic's back is healthy. Failure to receive this assurance could scuttle the deal. Radojevic currently is on the Raptors injured list following back surgery earlier this season. Radojevic did not accompany the Raptors on their current trip. "This is the first I've heard of any possible trade," Radojevic's agent, Marc Cornstein, said. "I know Alek likes Toronto very much." If it does go through, the trade would give the Raptors more athleticism and shooting touch from the outside. "When I was in Denver last, coach (Dan) Issel said that if he knows a trade is going to happen he would let me know before it gets in the papers," Clark's agent, Jim Mourer, said. "I don't think it's more than GMs talking back and forth. (But) sometimes (word of a trade) gets leaked before it happens." ------------------
