i saw him play some last year since i lived in d.c. he is a GREAT backup QB but if he is our starter, i might have to think about trying to convince Cody Carlson to make a comeback!
Does it really make a difference. Carr is a smart, four year starter, who should be starting relatively soon. No backup QB that we have start for a few games can really "Show him the ropes." I mean, what were Rob Johnson, or Jeff Blake going to show him, how to hold the ball too long or lose a lot of games? And Chandler, well, he sucks and is a horrible mentor. If it's Kent Graham, it's Kent Graham. That just means Carr will get in sooner (fine by me) and the team may not win quite as many games their first year (also fine by me). On paper, mgmt has done a fantastically good job thus far. No need to start doubting them now.
How about trying to sign Aikman for a year? Did he ever sign with Miami? If Aikman were about 5yrs younger, this would be the perfect team for him. I think if Aikman were willing to play second fiddle, he'd be a great mentor to Carr.
Aikman? Why not just bring in Warren Moon or John Elway? I'm not interested in seeing the Texans waste time and money starting and signing a career backup like Graham. They won't get any benefit from signing a "veteran" if the guy is terrible, maybe mediocre at best.
Out of curiousity, how much does the average backup QB make these days? 2nd strign, not third (which I dont imagine would be too much).
Well, I agree somewhat, but like I said earlier, I wouldn't want to pay him $1 million for a year (which everyone in the league knows the Texans are dangling). If Kent signs for the league minimum or slightly above, I wouldn't be as opposed. But if we start paying above market value for him, we may lose out on other free agents (the Texans have been fiscally conservative to date). If Kent Graham makes us lose out on Earl Holmes or James Allen, I'd be pissed. If Jeff Blake makes us lose out on other free agents, I'd wouldn't be quite as upset (he was a decent starter). On the flip side, if we need to sign Kent Graham to snag Holmes or Allen, I'd be all for it.
I'd like to see them sign Gus Frerotte. I know he said he didn't want a one year deal, so, why not offer him a 3 year deal & see if he bites? He's always been a solid performer & since he's been a backup for several years lately, he'd be someone that I wouldn't mind coming off the bench after Carr establishes himself. Besides, we're still going to need a veteran backup when Carr takes over. I don't think that Quinn or Sankey could take over & lead the team, if Carr were to get hurt. If that can't be done, then let's see if we can swing a reasonable deal with Tampa Bay, since they now have 3 quarterbacks with starter experience. How much would Brad Johnson or Shaun King cost?
Everywhere Kent Graham has gone, he's won the starting job due to the other QB's incompetence - hence his nickname, The Graham Reeper. I think the Texans should sign him just so I could use that nickname as much as possible.
