After seeing how the season played out, how do you feel the kenny thomas for posey trade worked out. we still need a bruising 4 and im not sure kenny is that, (though he had some huge rebounding games for philly) and if we sign posey to a good deal, its better than the rip off kenny thomas put on philly. (6 yrs for a little over 40mil) I think it worked out great for us because posey is the kind of 3 we need in my opinion (defensive minded open court player, 3ball needs some work tho) and kenny would just keep the logjam at the 4 position. would you have rather traded eddie considering the lack of progress he has made, we could have gotten rashard lewis in a griffin plus filler plus draft pick (boki), i think we should have done that but o well...
If we could've gotten rid of Mo we would've but since we couldn't, Kenny had to be traded. His style of play simply did not work in our offense. He was a high post player who relied on driving to the whole from the high post and taking the 17 ft jumper. He has skills but he was essentially an iso player and we allready had Steve, Cat, Yao, and Mo who need the ball to be effective. We needed a player to do the little things like rebound, get out on the break, and hustle and we got exactly that in Posey. It was a great trade for all three teams as Philly got a pf whom they plan to build around along with AI for years to come, Denver got rid of more contracts, and we came out with a guy who's skills and hustle were sorely needed.
KT is more fit for the Eastern Conference, where the PFs are smaller. He's too short to guard the Webbers, Malones, Garnetts, and Duncans of the West. And he's not quick enough to play the 3. Not to mention the fact that he needs the ball in his hands to be successful.
Wow, it's really rare to see a trade benefit all teams involved so much. I agree with all who's posted here. I think Kenny is a perfect PF for the 76'ers who always seem to need an offensive presence to pair with AI. He's way more of an eastern conference forward, he CAN score pretty well, and I think he's somewhere between Othella and Kurt Thomas (2 other undersized PFs) as a rebounder. As for our side, I love Posey's game and always kind of coveted him when he played for Denver. He does hustle and he definately can get out on the break and jump out 'da roof. The good thing is, his outside shooting isn't TERRIBLE, and at best can be considered servicable. As for the rumored Rashard deal, I hated it at the time, but considering EG's play last season and the draft pick was spent on Boki I think I would like it a little more now. That said, the jury is still considered to be out on both of these guys, so who knows how will look at that deal AFTER this coming season?
All I can say is that it would sure be nice to have a small forward that can give you 18 pts and 7 rebounds a night or a power forward that can play defense and get 15 points and 10 rebounds a night. Right now we have neither. We could have had one...maybe. I was against the deal last year when it was discussed and who knows, Eddie is still only 21 and should be entering his senior season in college so we might see some dramatic improvements yet. As far as KT for Posey, I think it worked out for both teams. The jury is still out on Posey in my house, is he going to be the Posey we saw the first couple of months with the team where he goes 0 for 8 or 1 for 10 while his opponent lights his ass up? Or is he going to play like the Posey we saw the last month and a half where he was our best player? Posey vs. Rashard Posey is better defensively. Posey is much more athletic Posey runs the break better Rashard is a better rebounder Rashard shoots the ball and scores much better Rashard is younger and still getting better
We were going to trade Posey for Rashard?? BTW, Posey is not better defensively, only at playing the passing lanes. Rashard is also easily more athletic than Posey and would probably run the break better if his role wasn't centered as much on rebounding.
What two teams is everyone talking about? You think this worked out for Denver? That's very debatable. As for Philly, they just flat out got Kenny for basically nothing. We didn't come close to winning in the trade like Philly did. imo, here's the way it worked: Philly A+ trade Houston a B, at best, and possibly much worse depending on signing him Denver's angle was a purge. Not gradeable.
If Posey leaves and returns to Denver, it surely does work out well for two teams, but certainly not Houston
Weren't you the one claiming how much Posey excelled playing under Rudy? If he excelled playing under Rudy, how exactly did he get him fired?
One of the questions was would we have been better doing the Griffin for Rashard trade that Seattle supposedly offered last summer. Thats why the Rashard comparisons. And there is absolutely no way in any universe or on any court that Rashard is as athletic as Posey. Sorry. Plus Posey is just a better defender. Of course I reserve the right to distance from these remarks after the next time Posey and Lewis meet.
I liked the trade at the time and I still do. If we don't poney up for Posey when all we have is an over 35 year old soon to be FA in his position, would probably wouldn't have with KT with Mo/EG there. Posey was a major cog in our reach for the playoffs even though he was only our 4th best player (same as KT when he was with us). KT is doing well in the EC--I expect this to continue. But I expect Posey to continue to be an important Rocket in currently our most desperate position.
If we resign Posey and he plays like he did the last month of the season then I give us an A in the trade.
You are equating Posey excelling to team success. Obviously, that success (a little late) did not result in the playoffs. TheFreak is talking about what the Rockets needed to make the playoffs.
