Kenny Smith Just called Yao the rocket's best player

    Anybody watching the tip off on TNT? The Jet said that he was very skeptical at first and that he couldn't believe what he was seeing when he watched the scouting videos. Now he says that he was wrong and that for the Rockets to succeed, Francis and Mobley have to give him the ball. Barkley said the Rocks will go nowhere if Either Francis or Mobley go down this year.

    I guess hes never heard of THE FRANCHISE!! but I hope that one day Steve is still an all-star and Yao is considered our best player that would be sweet!

    I think he meant that Yao has the capability to be the Rocket's best player. There is no way in hell he's better than Francis right now.

    to be more specific, he was saying in order for the rockets to succeed (he's implying going all the way), rocket players need to recognize that Yao's the best rockets player, that's all.. And I don't think he means this year specifically.

    Barkley couldn't believe his ears and acted like that's the dumbest statement he's ever heard...he said, and I'm paraphrasing, "its the lakers saying robert horry is their best player"...kenny responds by saying, if you watch him play, you'll see, you'll see...I think barkley is the idiot here...

    At least Kenny admitted he was wrong on the air. Hopefully, Barkley will be next to ad his name to list of converts.

    I'm predicting many fun moments between Barkley and Yao Ming over the years. I think both will develop a healthy respect for each other's games (well Yao already respects Barkley) and wits.

    You just wait and see.

    Great to see Kenny Smith come over to the light. Always liked the guy, surprised by his uninformed comments post-draft.

    I could care less what they think about Ming. I like them both and one opinion isn't gonna make me decide to hate Barkley and Kenny. There are still people debating as to whether Jordan is the greatest player ever. There are people here who will give you their opinions about current players like "Iverson sucks," "Vince Carter isn't a franchise player," and "Shaq isn't a good player, he's just big." You guys are wrong for calling them idiots because of their opinions. Granted, the reported rookie orientation incident with Kenny wasn't good, but that's no reason to vilify him and act like everything else he's done isn't worth anything. If all of us here had a national forum to speak our minds, trust me, all of us here would be called idiots for something that we'd say. I hope there are others here who agree with me. I wouldn't want people calling me an idiot if they didn't agree with me, but if those two are idiots and they had productive NBA careers and sweet jobs in broadcasting, well I hope that I can be an idiot too.:p

    I would be ok if Charles have seen him play, and still feel that way, he can say whatever the heck he wants...I will respect his stupid opinion :D BUT in this case, he's never seen him play much at all and calling him out, that's what pissed me off about barkley..

    Yao Ming needs to earn his respect. Kenny or Barkley's comments wouldnt change Yao Ming's basketball ability a bit. As a rookie, Yao needs
    to prove himself.

    How do you know he hasn't seen him play??? I never heard Barkley say that Yao will suck by the way. He said he hoped for the best for Ming and that it will take him a few years to develope. This is my point, the fact that he isn't hanging off of Ming's jock has people upset.

    When Kenny said, "When you see him play, you'll understand why he feels that he's the best rockets player"...he said it a few times to barkley...but Charles didn't say much in response he keeps shaking his head and laughing...this was the way he reacted when we drafted Yao, and he's never seen the kid play then (not laughing like that but thinking he sucks without ever seeing him playing). So I based it on that...

    I do not get upset at all if people who say Yao won't be any good in the NBA...As long as they have a reason instead of just basing it on ignorance...

    At least Jay Williams isn't getting much run lately as the guy the Rockets should have drafted instead of Yao. The Rockets' season hasn't started yet and Yao is getting a lot more respect than on draft night.

    I think that trend will continue though I don't expect a lot from him this year. When's the last time a rookie (any rookie) took the league by storm?

    Probably Duncan. Maybe Francis and Brand, but I don't think they were quite THAT good as rookies.That's all the most recent I can think of.

    does that mean during the draft when he made fun of our first pick, he didn't even see yao ming play?
    this makes him an even bigger idiot than before.
