What happened to this guy? I saw him do a small piece on ESPN at the TPC this year yelling at players on the 17th hole during a practice round. I guess it was supposed to be funny, I thought it was pretty stupid. He was a decent anchor there for a while and then just disappeared and has done a handful of dumb pieces since then. Does anyone know what happened to him?
I saw that as well.. and thought eventually there would be a point to it. where he interviewed Ernie or something..
Every now and then, ESPN anchors just get "bored" of doing Sportscenter all the time. Thus, they explore other ventures. Kenny Mayne had a running piece each week on NFL Countdown that had similiar motifs to the TPC bit. In fact, he did one spoof on the Texans, where they decided to get rid of all the players except the special teams ones (this was when it seemed like Kris Brown was winning every game on a last second FG). They interviewed Capers, Casserly, etc... and they all went along with it. You'll see several anchors do sportscenter for awhile, then go onto their other shows (baseball tonight - karl ravech, hockey - Steve Levy), but they'll always eventually come back to the "big show." Kenny Mayne will eventually come back as well.
Not as much as Stuart Scott. That guy used to be so fun to watch, now it seems like he tries way to hard to be hip. Dream Job is TERRIBLE.
I saw the story and I think you got that backwards. They got rid of the kickers because they didn't need them. The story came up after Capers' decision to go for a last second touchdown for the win. Carr made it across and the Texans won (against the Panthers?).
You're absolutely right... I knew I had it wrong when I was typing it (can't believe I've forgotten the football season already). And... it was against the Jaguars. Thanks.
whats up with stuart scott's eyes, his right looks bigger and clearer and blue? while his left is smaller, i think he wears glasses to detract attention from this, or maybe I am just seeing things, anyone else noticed this?
He got hit in the eye with a football from one of those automatic throwing machines used for WR practice during New York Jets training camp several years back. That's why he always wears shades or tinted glasses, even on camera. His eye is very sensitive to light.
Reason # 1 journalists should not pretend to be athletes. It would not surprise me if they left the machine speed on high.
