[rquoter]According to two league sources, Perkins has already turned down a Celtics offer that is bound by the CBA’s current restrictions — a contract extension worth slightly less than $30 million over four years, which reflects the currently mandated contract limits of a 20-percent increase and a four-year maximum. Perkins, represented by agent Arn Tellem, has opted to wait until he is an unrestricted free agent, when even in an unpredictable market he has a chance of commanding far more.[/rquoter]

This of course is no surprise by any means, but it's news and the Rockets might be in the market for Perkins this upcoming summer.

Looking at other recent center contracts (Haywood $8.3mil/year, Noah & Horford $12mil/year) I'd say it'll likely take somwhere between $9mil-$11mil to get Perkins' services, barring major CBA changes.

I wouldn't mind having Perkins, but I'm surprised he doesn't want to stay with the Celtics. Unless he thinks the Big 3 is going to retire soon.

He said when he becomes a free agent he thinks Houston will be interested in him.
    1. B/c he's from Texas
    2. We need a defensive rebounding center
    3. We most likely will have the money

But I thought he would of stayed in Boston at least until the big three leave.

He is not worth more than $ 7.5 M/year.

Perkins said that? When? Do you have a link? I'd love to get the guy.

You must not be familiar with the contracts of strong defensive shot blocking centers. They are expensive.

There are exceptions but those are mainly rookie scale contracts.

I'm a Celtics homer, but his mouth looks like the McDonalds logo.

I'm not excited about our future if he's gonna be Calvin Klein's underwear on our hope chest.

He may regret that in a big way, especially if the owners win out and get a pseudo-hard cap that severely chokes offers teams can give.

That would be a scary team if they don't lose any significant players

    Westbrook
    Thabo
    Durant
Green (should look for a better pf, but green will do ok. He would be a great 6th man)
    Perkins

Really think so? I would rather, as a rocket have Ibaka and have him gain another 15 pounds, than having Perkins.

This dude wants more money than scola when he produces 1/2 of Luifa. =/
Would love to Perkins for the midlevel though.

    Good point

But hell I'll take either one that is avaible.

    Both can rebound and block

Ibaka is really athletic, while Perkins is a very good defender.

    Yeah...but...

Are you sure you aren't hurting him by asking him to gain 15 lbs?

    Mehmet Okur 31 9,450,000
    Jermaine O'neal 32 5,765,000
    Kwame Brown 28 1,229,255
    Ronny Turiaf 28 4,000,000

*Only productive defensive minded centers under 33 years of age are listed.

The only guys there not getting paid 9M+ after their rookie contract are Andersen, Darko, Kwame, JO, Turiaf, Varajao, and Gortat. Andersen, Turiaf, Kwame and Darko can block shots but they aren't really on the same level as Perk defensively. O'neal would have only signed with a contender. So, Gortat and Varajao are really the only centers on deals that are cheaper and of better value than the one Perkins will probably get (or that he hopes he will get).

Players of Perkins' size and caliber rarely sign for mid-level exceptions unless they are completely unproven.

The only issue I have with Perkins is health, he had some leg injuries last year. If the medical sees no long term damage I'd be all for paying him up to 12M a year.

Perkins is special, he's like a bigger version of Chuck Hayes. Just like Hayes you can use him to shutdown the traditional centers in the league (DH, Marc Gasol), but he can also guard the paint and block shots.

As an aside, just realized he was drafted by Memphis. LOL fail at that franchise, to think they could be playing Perkins, Pau Gasol, Rudy Gay, Mayo and Lowry right now.

He can't shut Dwight down, no one really can anymore, well I guess 28 points at 50% is sort of shutting him down? :p

He's worth 8-9 mil /yr, just slightly above the Celtics' offer.

He can turn down 30 million dollars, but I bet there is no way he could resist an iPad.
