There is a senior high school student playing in Beaumont Texas named Kendrick Perkins. He plays for Ozan High school. I have seen him written about in the Chronicle along with other high school stars. I live near Beaumont, and have seen him play in a tournament. It is hard to say if he is ready for the NBA level, but he moves very well. He is 6' 10" or 6' 11", and big bodied like maybe 265lb.I think he is 17 years old now. He is a dominant rebounder- but this is high school level. If he elects to go directly from High school to the NBA draft I think he would be far enough back that we might could get him. This is all premature, but I bet people here already know about him and can give a better evaluation. I think the Rockets need a rebounder and shot blocker badly to give us some strength in the paint. There is not much out there to trade for. just wanted to see what you think....
There also is a shooter named ROXRAN who likes to shoot...He is 5'113/8'' and 208 lbs. ...(same size as Timmy aye? ) ...He can shoot it...What do you think if ROXRAN gets paid 120 million to go to compaq center and shoots all over the place? ROXRAN knows game and likes to eat game too...so give ROXRAN a chance to shoot...it won't hurt.......................well, it might...
Earlier this year, they brought Perkins in front of the Texas House of Representatives to honor his and his team's accomplishments in high school basketball. At the time, I was blown away by what I heard but don't remember what they said. The same day they brought T.J. Ford and his team up on the floor as well. I hope the kid goes to college. Besides, it seems like Rudy's reluctant to use players under a certain age. Griffin should play more especially against San Antonio.
Sorry - my bad - Ozen is right. I did not know he was a JR. I know we need help right now, but I just do not see anybody out there to trade for. I don't know much about the College prospects. I've heard of a player from western Kentucky - Marcus?? 6' 10" or 6' 11" center. I only brought up Perkins because he is such a great high school player...
Maybe we can trade Mobley and OUR lottery pick to whoever has the 1st pick overall. Then we can draft Jason Williams from Duke and move Stevie back to the 2
I don't think Rudy T really wants another player on this team who hasn't spent at least 3 years in college.
I think after this year we can almost safely say the high school to NBA trend is going to slow down a little bit. Especially with the name Dajuan Wagner is making for himself in college while the NBA rooks look lost. I would like to see the rockets get Jason Williams and move Francis to the two Mobley to the three Taylor back at PF and Griffin starting at the center spot.
Jason Williams IS NOT a legit PG. He is a scorer first, and a scorer second. This year he really hasn't been playing that great. He can shoot the 3 as well as anyone, but he takes too many off balanced jacked-up shots. He can't be shooting much higher than 40% right now.
Chris Marcus. He's out 4 weeks with a stress fracture in his foot. Part of the reason they've lost 2 straight games. Old School
I've played against Kendrick before, and yes he is a junior. The kids a beast - but I don't think he's at an NBA level. Of course I see him in paper getting 40 points and so, but remember Ozen is a 4a? or 3a? school. they aren't 5a, like ford and company. I've heard alot of stuff about him going to NBA - the guy's a damn good player, but I don't think he can bang with the NBA quite yet. -LTF
Perkins is the real deal, ynfortunately, he's only a junior. When he comes out with whomever is in the draft with him, he will be the #1 player taken. It would be nice if you draft a player after his senior yr like in baseball, send him to the nbdl then call him up. That should be the focus of the nba to develop their talent. Let all player become elgible after high school, let every team have a nbdl affiliate with their own coaches and that way some of these young guys can play against other pros and develop instead of sitting on the bench wasting away. Then after a yr or two, you can gauge what kind of player you have and you wouldn't have some of these guys coming in without a clue.
