It's not the size of the center, it's the motion in the high post.

While I definitely appreciate KP showing some love for our very own center, from what I have seen over the years guys like KP actually defend Yao very well.

That's because Yao has a high center of gravity, and although he's really huge, people like Perkins or Chuck Hayes can use their mass to make him unbalanced and basically just push him around the court. Since Yao is really big compared to guys like Perkins who are undersized to begin with, the refs tend to allow rougher plays on these guys on the BS premise that since he's bigger, he shouldn't feel these rough plays as much (what I call the "Shaq drawback"). This results in players like KP being able to hook, pull, push and do a lot of stuff that are illegal if you did them to any other players.

So yeah. If you can't front Yao Ming, just put an undersized fat dude like KP on him, preferably one with a mean streak. You'll not only shut Yao down for the game, you'll also probably cause a season-ending injury to the guy.

This is from a very good post defender.
I remember Al Horford said similar things.
Then you have Nejara, Al Harrington who put Yao in the spot lot of times.
For Yao, the ideal match up is 7 foot and taller. I don't care who that guy is, single coverage will not work.

umm KP is not an undersized fat dude, he is 6'10 280 from what i recall, as well as the best defensive center in the league. he has no trouble guarding anyone really. opponents fg percentage vs perkins was the worst in the league. this is actually, considering the big man talent in the league these days a very high compliment. if you really think chuck hayes could shut down yao for a game, you must not have seen yao play very much, the idea alone is laughable. sure chuck would strip him 2 maybe 3 times, then yao would shoot over him and shoot uncontested shots for the rest of the game.

I never denied it was a very good compliment, KP is IMHO one of the top defensive big men in the league, rivaling DH, so to hear him say Yao is the hardest guy to guard is definitely major props.

Well IMHO you're definitely underestimating Chuck Hayes if you think he can't guard Yao effectively. What do you mean shoot over him? Hayes is not a dwarf, he can reach Yao's arms and block the ball if Yao attempts to shoot right in front of him. Yao has a very slow/mechanical release on his shot, which is why him playing in the high post didn't really work out as well as everyone hoped.
