why doesn't he just admit it, he's totally old news and should join Barkley, Malone and the other power forward of "his era" on the sidelines... or wherever it is Shawn Hemp likes to hangout. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune...bulls,1,4475143.story?coll=cs-bulls-headlines No-Show Kemp Blows Chance With Bulls 19th September, 2006 - 2:40 am Chicago Tribune - Shawn Kemp's planned workout at the Berto Center never materialized Monday, and it's unlikely the six-time NBA All-Star will receive another invitation from the Bulls, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune reports. Kemp experienced travel problems late Sunday night but still arrived in Chicago early Monday morning. Instead of working out with the Bulls, he traveled to his hometown of Elkhart, Ind., to visit an ailing relative. Kemp, who retired in 2003 after 14 seasons because of weight issues, also missed a planned workout with Dallas earlier this year.
Well you're bound to run late every now and again when you have to pick up 17 kids from school everyday.
I recently played a pickup game with him...he still has some nice moves/tricks. I took a cell phone pic with him. Seemed like a very nice guy and I feel bad for him. He could play a few minutes of blue-collar for a so-so team for a cheap salary though. Wish him well.
Why the hell do you feel bad for him? He made over $50million playing a child's game, went on a personal mission to overpopulate the country, and then shat it all away. There are people far more deserving of symapthy.
Hmm... so he would rather be with an ailing relative than at a workout with the Bulls. Should we diss him for that? I don't know since I don't know the whole story, and it sounds fishy, but...
he could of at least called and let them know beforehand. oh well, with Kemp out of the Bulls picture, there's increasing chance Luke Schenscher sticks. go the aussie boys.
Kids and lifestyle aside ...... The man was phenomenal ... Key word was.....Personally I think Amare S. will never have the power and ups like Shawn K. did. Have you seen the reels on youtube.. Just sick I mean sick... Just watching those clips made my jaw drop. Nobody in the NBA had the power like he did and if you know somebody who has then please by all means tell me who so I can see some re-plays of that person.
I'm surprised ANY team would give him a tryout considering the way he played his last few seasons and that the fact he's been away from the game for 2+ years. I heard he's been trying to work himself back into shape, but if you ask me he's past done. He'd probably do more harm than good for any team.
I dont feel bad for him. One time I was eating dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings at the Westheimer location and we saw him there. He had his whole entourage with him and when he was about to leave a friend of ours asked for his autograph and he declined. Then another friend of ours who was a girl asked for it and he gave this cheesey smirk and said sure and then tryed to talk to her after. I mean c'mon she didnt even know his name...
The Rainman was incredibly athletic and could have been an all-time great if he had some discipline. "Sick" describes his game very well.
First, don't get all worried about who I feel sorry for..I am not shedding tears here. I like to see people make come backs and overcome their demons. It appears that wrt his weight, he overcame that demon...but drugs and problems with the law and his work ethic remain in question. So take a deep breath, it's going to be alright.
Not only that, but the Payton-Kemp combo was just killer. Its been so long but man that 1-2 punch was simply the achilles heal of the Rockets, and I'll always be eternally grateful for Mutumbo and the Nuggets's upset of the Sonics in the playoffs because they had our number that year. We'll probably never see another athlete lwith that kind of skill and ballhandling.
He could've posted much better scoring numbers too if he weren't on such a balanced offensive team. I mean...Gary Payton, Detlef Scrempf, Hersey Hawkins, Sam Perkins, there were a lot of great scorers. I always here people pointing to Amare's scoring stats as proof of superiority, but if you put a prime Kemp in that system today he'd be even more dominant and better on the defensive end. But that was then. I'm not sure if he can be expected to get any more opportunities.
I loved Kemps game. He was so athletic, it was crazy and a joy to watch. I'm a die hard rockets fan but I give credit where credit is due, him and Payton were a one two punch who owned the rockets. They whpped our asses and wiped the floor with us every time. Thank god Dikembe and the nuggelts somehow beat them in the first round in 94. Give credit where credit is due, George Karl and the Sonics owned us.
