i brought this question up during the chat last night. and at the time we came up with maagloire, big z, and ben wallace as being better than Cato in the East.

then i realized maagloire is gonna be in the west next season. and you know Z always gets injured and stuff. so Cato has a great shot at being an all star.

    14-10? what do you think?

i think this is why our deal makes more sense than Artest-Harrington-Bender, or Marion-Jacobson-Pick

Maybe it isn't, but Cato could definitely average right around a double (9/10/2blk) if he's playing least 30mpg.

There's also Jermaine O'Neal among others. I just don't see Cato as ever being that calliber of player. He is a GOOD back up center in a league where most back up centers are really power forwards being forced to play that role. Hell, there are a lot of power forwards STARTING as centers around the league.

Being a very good back up means being an average starter in a league that is below average at that position relative to the rest of the positions on the floor. That gives Cato value but it won't make him an all star.

No way. Cato is a lifetime underachiever in the NBA. He is a very good post defender, when he is motivated. He never tried to improve his shooting. How come some one shoot that bad if you put in a bit effort???

Ppl like him, Dampier, for example, only work hard in contract year.

14pts! hell no maybe 4 points

    4-10 player = Kelvin Cato

he's a terrific defensive player though, no doubt

Don't forget Okafor will probably play some center for Charlotte and will likely get a ton of minutes. He has a considerably better chance of being an all-star than Cato.

hmm is this the year that the rabid catomic bomb realizes his prediction of leading the league in rebounding? I think not!

    9.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 1.5 bpg

haha lol... i'm kidding a little bit... but there aren't mountains separating Cato from Maagloire... at least athletically.

my prediction is 10pt/12reb/2.2blk with very solid D if getting 35+ m/g.
not all-star calliber even in the east but a player many teams would love to have on their roster (Mavs, NY, Mem, ... to name a few)

i think he can do it. what was Magloire around all-star time last year? 14/10? i think cato can do 12/10/2 assuming he plays about 35 minutes. who does he have to beat out?

He does have a chance because as someone said earlier... Big Z will probably get hurt and Magloire will be moved to the East. I wish the guy the best if he is traded although i always felt he should have been a better player given his strength and athleticism.

I think the three big favorites here are Ben Wallace, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Emeka Okafor (will probably play some center).... there there are players like Brian Grant, Sam Dalembert, Antonio Davis, Kwame Brown (will be moved to the 5 since they acquired Antawn Jamison).. even Dikembe Mutumbo has more name recognition if it comes down to the fans. Though likely if Cato were to stand a chance the coaches would have to vote him in. I think Cato could quite possibly play on the level of the second group but the fact is he isn't much better if better than any of those guys.

Offensively I cant see how Cato matches up with Magloire. Averaging 10pts for Cato is reaching a lil bit, but still very possible. I can see Cato being a 10/10/2 guy easily. He is more athletic and bigger then Brian Grant who is close to a 10/10 guy, but Cato doesnt have the jumper Grant does.

Best case scenario Cato will be a 10/10/2 guy in the east. It's a goal very obtainable for Cato, but who knows if he will be motivated.

    Cato, an all-star? ROTFLMAO.

Why don't u go and check out these guys:
    LaFrentz, Chris Mihm,
    Grant, Collins, Arron Williams,
Etan Thomas, Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler,
Pollard, Skinner, Traylor, Bosh, Okur, Campbell.

That is the class of centers that Cato belongs to.
Some of those guys are a little better than Cato,
    some are a little worse.

    Forget about Z, Ben, Magloire.

Why did people always project Cato's stats in 35 mins? When did Cato prove to be able to play 35 mins a night in the NBA? I surely can't see him do it with his foul and shooting problem.

well only starters can be nominated, right? so is it LaFrentz or Mihm? Collins or Aaron Williams? Eddy Curry or Tyson Chandler? And neither Okur nor Campbell start for detroit.

You sure listed alot of power forwards that play a couple back up center minutes a game.....

10/10/2 is very attainable? How then is it that in 7 years, he's never averaged more than 8.7pts, 7 rbs, or 1.9blks? He hasn't averaged a lot of minutes, but he's had every chance to earn significant minutes, and he hasn't done it.
