Was it just me or did any of you guys noticed leadership skills in Kelvin Cato last year? For one thing, last year during preseason Cato spoke up when his teammates were not playing well. Secondly, Cato stepped up and took charges when other players on the Rockets did not. Thirdly, I remember during a game against the Sacramento Kings where Rudy Tomjanovich was trying to explain something to the Rockets on his clipboard. Cato took the board, showed something else, but Tomjanovich tooked it back, and Cato kept trying to show him something. It was on national television and TBS or TNT (whatever station it was) pointed that out. I also remember seeing other Kelvin Cato's actions on the court. Cato often pointed at places during the court, trying to lead the Rockets to make the hoop. On one play Cato grabbed Kenny Thomas' elbow at the three point line and told him where to go on the court, which lead to the Rockets making the shot. I definitely think Cato would be a great coach. What do you think?
No, he wouldn't. Whatever leadership skills he displayed last year didn't amount to any wins for the Rox. Although, I did notice Cato giving more effort than in the past, he shouldn't be trying to give other people directions when 96% of the time he looks lost out there himself. On top of all that he whines and gets mad really easily. I will give him props one one thing, he DOES know how to complain to the refs like a coach, I'll give him an A on that!LOL.
I happen to know the inside scoop on every one of these plays : He was just excited that so many of the players joined his level of play last year. That's because he reacts too slowly and couldn't move out of the way fast enough. [Cato grabs the clipboard from Rudy] : "Look at the putty X Woooody, look at the putty X... I wanna be a X too Woooody. Can I huh? Can I?" [Rudy grabs the clipboard from Kelvin] : "Shut up Kelvin" [Pointing] "Somebawdy gawd him... I'm too damn tired. And somebody guard him, too. Ow, my booboo hurts. " [Pointing again] "Look at the puuuttty logo. And the floor is sooo shiny!" [Cato grabbing KT] : "Will you be my friend?" [KT responds] : "Not now Kelvin! I'm drivin'. I need to make big money on my next contract foo!" [Cato] : "Aww. I already got big money!" [Rudy on the sidelines] : "Stop grabbing your teammates!!!"
I don't think Cato will ever live up to his contract, but I do expect him to be a solid contributor to a very good Rocket team.
The definition of a leader is anyone who has a follower. If anyone on our roster follows Cato we will be playing the lottery madness game for a very long time! Cato is not a leader is is an overpaid, lazy player with no hands.
cato, at best, is a role player. he showed some improvement last year. if he continiues to improve he can be a nice center to have backing up yao.
"I definitely think Cato would be a great coach. " ROTFLMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do agree with some of what you said; I too remember Cato hustling in games at the end of last season when the rest of the team was just going thru the motions. But as far as being a coach, I don't think Kelvin is gonna have the requisite motivational skills to inspire a guy to wake up in the morning, much less play bball. I'm still laughing!!
Cato is a leader in the sense of being the best 12th man in the NBA. Too bad they don't have an award for that. Collier is the best 13th man BTW.
I was behind the bench in Excremento for that game. Kelvin had written down directions to the only good restaurant in town, after a couple of us had yelled out the cross streets to him. He was very upset when it looked like Rudy was going to erase those directions.
i can't believe i am saying this, but I am really excited to have Cato as a back up center. I don't think you can make the playoffs with cato as your starter, but I think he could really put in some quality minutes off the bench. he always looked nice coming in to give hakeem a breather
I don't know, but I predict we will get a hint from opposing centers and coaches: Other NBA players explain how it feels to play against the all-time field goal percentage leader in 2003-04.
It's sad but true. http://www.nba.com/rockets/history/career_leaders.html Yao Ming will hopefully change this very soon.
I won't say it, but I'll tell you this much: After reading it on Rockets.com a minute ago, I am feeling very nauseous.
I think one of your best players have to be a leader of the team. I have yet to find a good team when the leader is the 8th or 9th man on the team.If Cato is going to be a leader on the team, then this team will be in trouble.
