Since Yao Ming always has to help out on defense, would it work to have Kelvin Cato and Yao Ming together? Probably not...because neither one would rest. But Yao Ming has recently left his opposing center WIDE OPEN. The other centers he has been playing have been scoring double digits easily. I don't know. Even the crappy centers are like shooting well against him. He doesn't even contest the shots. He doesn't even raise his arms. I know he is tired. But the centers are getting easy baskets. :( We need a solution! Playoffs!!!! :( Okay.

I think Yao steps out of his position to help out on Eddie a lot, EG does not rotate well, hence a lot of easy buckets for opposing PF/C, in my opinion.

It would work, but you can't have two players roming the Paint that can't put the ball on the floor with out turning the Roc over. ;)

Yao is playing help defense. Since the other C on the team is usually the least potent player... it's usually going to be a good gamble.

I'd agree he does cheat too much, sometimes.

LOL. This is what Yao Ming said in his Chinese interview.

But certain posters here thought that Yao had issues with EG. LOL.

Although Eddie G. is responsible for some pretty weak defense, Yao winds up having to come over to help due to pentrations by the opposing GUARDS!! Steve is seldom able to prevent his guy from going right by him, then Yao has to rotate over, thereby leaving his man wide open on the baseline or at the F.T. line.

Nach absolutely worked Steve over and got Bradley about 6 or 7 wide open shots from the F.T. line in the game against Dallas. Tonight, Spree and Houston both made penetrations against Rice, Cat and Posey (although Cat and Posey were able to get some stops...)

I wouldn't mind seeing a twin tower line up occasionally if we're up against a team without a lot of speed at the PF and C spots.

    ;)

No, it would be not to get Roc Paint's thread locked.

    Yeah.......anyways.

Cato was doing a good job on Tim Duncan. I don't know.....he was getting lucky?

Malik Rose was just abusing us. He was just standing near the baseline and getting easy dunks. Terrible defense... same with David Robinson. Must have been easiest scoring game for him ever......even though he did score 71 one night. Congrats to him on a good career. Good luck with Carver Academy!!!

Yao has a deadly mid-range jumper that I think no center in this league can match. Yao would have a field day if Rudy T uses this same type of offensive scheme that the other teams are starting to use against the Rockets and make them taste their own medicine.

I would rather see the Rockets consistently get Yao the ball on a Pick n Pop play and let him take a wide open 15 footer a few times in the game than having him wasting so much energy all the time down low shooting a fadeaway jumper w/ a hand in his face, beside this type of shot takes him out of position for a put back should he miss.

We should definitely sign a veteran PF in the offseason. Right now, it is not working.

Who cares? The season is over. Run them both out of fouls. See what happens.

Personally, I want to see a couple of games where they try it, with Steve, Posey, and Tmo, in a defensive line-up. So what if they can't score. It's boki time. Experiment away.

Putting Cato and Yao together is not the answer. We all complain that EG can't shoot open jumpers which always leads to his man go doubling Yao. But Cato's shooting is even worse than EG.

Cato would not have to take many jump shots. As soon as his man goes to double Yao, Cato should go straight to the basket for the dunk.

I think in the past several games, the opposing centers got lucky with shooting outside jumpers. You have to live with that.
Today, Spurs have TD and Robinson, two good post players. Yao is not capable of guarding both of them. I didn't see either of them score on Yao 1-on-1, but EG was simply no show on defense.

Bench EG and start Cato may be a good idea.

Then why can't EG go for dunks?

Because he is out at the 3pt line throwing bricks.:(

If Yao and Cato were in together, Yao would have to step away from the basket for jumpers to maintain spacing. It would work for short periods with Yao playing a high post, but I think opposing coaches would counter with a quick lineup and score at will.

Although I would like to see Yao and Cato on the floor together I really don't think it would work. If things don't turn around quickly this season then we should be trying some new things on the floor, twin towers, playing time for Nachbar etc.

But putting Cato and Yao in improves defense a heck of a lot without giving up too much on offense. Cato is even a better rebounding than EG... hmmm... still it may be too dangerous to experiment this late in the season when we're so close to a playoff spot.
