These 2 guys are posting good numbers in the summer leagues. I know Kelly is an average defender but is very quick so he does get steals. He is very aggressive on the offensive side and can score. The only knock on him is that he should be a PG with his size. I remember Sneed back when he was one of the top HS prospects. I haven't seen him play but he is putting up good numbers. Would either one of these guys be a better backup at SG than Anderson? They will definitely be cheaper. ------------------
They would not be better. With Anderson, the price tag isn't really the question. We own partial bird rights for him. Anderson is an ideal backup at the 2 and 3 - a defensive specialist who can run the floor. Plus, the expectations will be lowered not having to start every game. ------------------ How the hell should I know why God would allow the Holocaust. Kelly has done well at the Revue, but I don't even think HE feels he has a shot at making the team... We talked to him today, and while he seems upbeat, he's realistic. More on that interview tomorrow... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
If the Rockets need to save money in general they could get one of these guys instead of Anderson. Anderson's contract (unless its a one year deal) will count against the cap next year though and from what I heard before its almost starter money. Even with partial Bird rights his salary will count toward the payroll which is subject to luxury taxes this year...right? You guys probably have a better handle on these guys though since you actually see and talk to them. I was just impressed by the numbers they put up so far...but Cato put up some nice numbers a few years back too and we all know how he turned out. Thanks for the updates DarkHorse. ------------------
Sneed is not a SG. ------------------ Life is a **** sandwich. The more bread you have, the less **** you have to take. You can Run from the bet, you can Rave at the bet...but you just can't hide.
Shandon is an Early Bird this summer and if he signs a 1 year deal, he will become a Full Bird next season. This is also true for Moochie. It benefits both of them to take smaller raises this year and larger ones next year because there is more upsides in the Full Bird contract. To my knowledge, the Rockets are wrestling with the current salary cap of $42.5M but are in no jeopardy from the Luxury Tax which is at $54M for 2001-2002. Kelley or Sneed would have to put up some serious numbers to get a contract offer. Shandon has too much size and experience for either of them to displace him. Then again, injuries are part of the game and it doesn't hurt to make an impression when you can. Did MacPherson play for PHX last season? If it's the same guy, he's pretty good and if I were Howard Eisley I'd be looking in my rear view mirror. ---------------- Raef to Rocks in '01-'02! Same guy - played with the Suns in the RMR and start of the regular season before being traded to the Golden State warriors. He's a 6'3 SG, and describes himself as a "power guard" - he has the ability to post up and score inside, even on much bigger guards. I don't think he has a great touch from all the way outside, but he can make the jumper from 18 and in - has a pretty nice pull up. Also a GREAT athlete, and this helps him get to the rim!!! ------------------
Doesn't he have an ungodly vert ? ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
I think I remember them talking about it last summer league in the 40" range - but I can't remember clearly.... but yeah, he can hop! ------------------
Definately, Sneed is not a guard. He likes to post up and all his points came inside 12 feet, if I remember right. Maybe DH can confirm this. He has a big body for his height. When he and Dan were in at the same time, Dan played the 2 guard. Sneed is very active and handles the ball well for his position. (SF) Kelly played 2 guard exclusively, although he guarded Battier some and did a credible job. He really is active, also, has great hops and plays bigger than his 6'3". I think it would be great if either or both players could be kept, but the reality is that there probably are no roster spots available. With Steve, Cat, Mooch, Langhi, Walt, Colson, T-Mo and Eddie, you have the 1,2,3 spots pretty well covered. If Shandon is resigned, those spots are really covered. There is a player on the Mavs named Paul McPherson. He is listed at 6'2" but looks taller. Maybe it is his build. He is 225 and its all in his chest and shoulders. He has played very well. When we were sitting with the coaches, watching Cleveland & Dallas, I said to coach Boylen that McPherson had played. He said, "McPherson is good." That was as big an endorsement as he gave for any player we talked about. It will be interesting to see if he sticks somewhere. ------------------
I don't know what his vert is, but he has big time athleticism, and that "power guard" description is right on. There is no guard in the league with shoulders like his. ------------------
dan is the man he does better than both of them, and i think he could be a good backup 2, causin problems off and def with his height the only question is can he play anywhere close to this in the league who was guarding him and who'd he guard so far, that'll say alot ------------------
