Steve, Yao and others proclaim that we need Rudy. Cuttino took a contract hit, played hurt and has changed roles yearly for the good of the team and to play for Rudy.

The ultimatum that should be conveyed asap: You have till mid season or few weeks before the trading deadline to show that you guys can do it with Rudy. We need to be clearly on line for a playoff berth and you guys need to be playing as a team. More assists, less turnovers, less over dribbling and mental erros, consistent defense. This is the last chance for this team and this coach. We have brought in some new assistant coaches to help you learn the team game and try to make this possible. Use the summer to get ready. It is the last chance for this team and this coach.

After that we will change coaches and or players. No one is safe. (though we know Yao is).

Note I'm not against making a no brainer trade this summer, in the unlikely event that happens, but lateral movement of coaches and players just for the sake of doing so is lame and is a marketing stunt that seldom pays off.

The advantges to this plan are that it is obviously fair. It gives the team a last chance to jell and absorb the dramatic change that occurred when we got Yao. It provides, however, the ground work for a continuing positive environment if major changes should be needed.

I think the worse decision you can make is a mid season firing. With the exception of O'Brien in Boston, nothing good normally comes out of a mid season ax job.

Why just settle for one ultimatum? Everyone should have at least one.

Francis: learn how to play d, learn how to run a break, no more walking the ball up the court, or you're fiiiired!!

Mobley: figure out what "good shot selection" means, learn how to pass, or you're fiiiiiired!!!

Posey: learn how to shoot, or you're fiiiiiiired!!!

Mooch: learn some janitorial skills, or you're fiiiiiired!!!

Griff: learn how to play in the post, and don't be a puss, or you're fiiiiiiired!!!!!

MoT: Grab a ****ing rebound, or you're fiiiiired!!!

RudyT: If you can't get your players to do the above, you're fiiiiired!!!

Glynch - I see you are a lawyer, so I assume you are an adult, have a job, and understand the nature of wroking for a living. Would you take a job if that was the offer? Do you think your employees would? I have worked for companies that treated employees like that (yes you can read into that that I was desperate) and they were hopelessy screwed up with massive turnover.

There are 2 problems I see with this scenario:

    1. As leeb pointed out, coaching changes at midseason typically are not a good thing; Les has been quoted as saying this also. Thus, the only way I could see the Rockets firing Rudy in season is if the Rockets are absolutely tanking. The problem is that even if the team is underachieving like this yr, they will probably be a roughly .500 team at midseason due to the immense depth and talent on this roster, and thus Les probably would not pull a midseason firing of Rudy T. It would take the team being something 18-30 or what not, and even if Rudy is doing an absolutely awful job coaching, the record simply is not going to be that bad b/c of the talent on this roster.

    2. It is much easier to make roster changes in an offseason like this one than at mid season. This offseason has a TON of players available. What other offseason is going to have players like Lamar Odom, Andre Miller, Elton Brand, Jason Kidd, Jermaine O'Neal, Michael Olowokandi, Tony Parker, Gary Payton and many more potentially changing teams? I feel a big part of the reason why teams were waiting on changes at the trade deadline was b/c there is a huge bonanza this summer. If the Rockets do want to move Cuttino and/or Eddie they can get excellent value despite what some in this forum think. Last summer, there were no where near this many names on the market; at midseason, the crop will be extremely dry. Also, who knows what kind of movement there will be on next summer's market? I seriously doubt its going to be anything like this. The last time I remember a market like this was when Hill, McGrady and B Wallace all moved in the same offseason and Tim Duncan was very close to moving. This market may not have as many high end players as that one, but there are a tremendous amount of good players available this summer that could be had with Mobley/Griffin type trade bait that would fit around Yao/Steve. The Rockets need to seriously look to make a move now, otherwise they will be stuck for a while. Btw, if this team stands a pat hand, they absolutely will not make the playoffs next season.

This will not work! These bozos have GUARANTEED contracts which insures that they'll get paid no matter what happens. Outside of their somehow possessing a desire to win, there is no reason for them to give a rat's ass about anything. If 4 straight years out of the playoffs could not motivate these guys, what makes anyone believe that an ultimatum will have any effect? What are you going to do? Can the entire starting lineup at midseason?

This team is in real trouble. Had the coach been anyone else but Rudy, he'd have been gone by now. Rudy hangs on because he's been here forever and has brought Houston 2 NBA World Championships. Make no mistake, those titles were great and we all celebrated them but that was 8 years ago. It seems an eternity ago...

Take a good look at this team and you see a team that's stuck in the past, living off past glories. There have been a ton of posts on the BBS about how Rudy must change and so on. Well, that ain't happening. Rudy will never change what he's doing because it worked once and he truly feels that it will work again. And he'll continue to do so no matter what.

who's gonna dish out these ultimatums again??? seriously, no one in the front office has enough balls to do this kind of work. the only thing they do is trade or fire them immediately--which is both a plus and a minus.

We all know Yao is untouchable. So his line, if there is one, would be like this:

Yao: don't worry. we will get everyone else on the team learn how to pass you the ball, or we'll fiiire everyone of them.

    :D :D :D

Hey giving them an ultimatum is just formalizing what everyboy knows. Doing it this way should eliminate hard feelings in the future if it has to be done. Let's see if the players can play hard and smart for each other and Rudy.

I still think that many on this board would have blown the 1994? Rocket's team apart one year before it jelled. After all it wasn't a perfect team. Hakeem still had not figured how to pass out of a double team. Kenny Smith made Francis look tough on defense and couldn't bring the ball up court against a physical defender. Maxwell made Cuttino look consistent etc.

To the Players and Coaches of the Rockets:

If you don't win 21 NBA championships in next three years, we are going to use chemical/biological weapons on your homes.

I thought they could do it b/c it was only 2-0 but maybe it was b/c I was when in high school when it happened and I didn't really know any better. If cc.net would have been in existence after game 2 of the Suns series, all hell would have broken loose and the trade Hakeem posts would have been everywhere. THIS upcoming season is THE year we see what the Rox have and then I beleive we'll see if moves need to be made.

We have a good group of guys.
We just need more time and chemistry.....and roles to be defined.
And a unique style of basketball to play........to utilize everyone's strengths......AND HIDE THEIR HORRIBLE WEAKNESSES!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Sounds so simple.....

Francis needs to improve his defense and needs to learn how to run the pick and roll. Yes. Defense is his worse. And he needs to take Anger Management class.
Mobley needs to improve his passing.....and work on his catch and shooting skills. He needs to know his role.....which I would like to be a shooter and a defender.
Posey.....I hope he's back. His is of course to learn how to shoot consistently. And he needs to keep his great dunks. I like him.
Griffin.....needs to improve......EVERYTHING. And needs to take drug prevention class or something. And he needs to stop partying.......which he won't but oh well. Shooting needs improvement. He needs to practice dribbling. Simple drills going up and down the court. He needs to learn how to cut...his dunks are nice when he's open. He needs to really work on his post game.
Yao Ming needs to get stronger. He needs to rest. He needs to practice. He needs to look to pass more...
Moochie Norris needs to be waived. He can never improve. Screw him. He's a waste of money.
Tito Maddox is useless and should be gone.
Juaquin Hawkins should be resigned for minimum. He's a great player. He really doesn't get to play anyways...just have fun...
Glen Rice...well too old. Just be a leader...and don't play.
Terence Morris will hopefully be back. He's a good solid 3rd string player. Really........he's pretty fundamental to me. He's not a superstar. But he's got all the basics. Just make shots or don't...50%.
Bostjan Nachbar.....barely plays. I guess work on defense and needs to get used to playing with the team...which should have been done this season.
Maurice Taylor needs to keep his great hook shot. And just needs to rebound...I like him. Be consistent. No more mar1juana.
Cato is great. Just keep the same attitude.
    Collier...bye bye.

    Coaches......have biggest job.
