Chris Wilcox continues to have problems with his situation with the Clippers, who are, after all, still the Clips. The Rox remaining TE = Wilcox salary, so is there a TE/#1 in the offing on Draft Day? (It's just too long to start waiting on trade threads, so...consider this.)
We still have a TE? How much? To tell you the truth, I don't know if I'd be willing to give that much for Wilcox.
he averages 9-5 in 20 minutes. if he were to become our starter (30MPG) he could be giving us something like 13-8. that is basically what Jho does. the difference here is that wilcox can be molded into a great defender. if it only costs a first round pick and the TE too match his salary, then CD would be crazy to turn it down.
I'd prefer Chandler, then Brand, then Wilcox. If we could get him with that, it would certainly be worth it, but I think the Clips would want more.
They might want more, they might be offered more. How much is more? TC and EB are terrific alternatives. However, Wilcox might be actually obtainable. He's young, has upside, and worth the TE/#1 IMO.
So, the asking price is a TE or cap room and a #1? The Nets have 2 $5 mill trade exceptions, still have a draft pick to spare from the K-Mart deal plus their own (got 3, traded 2 for Carter), have better draft picks to offer than we do, and are outside the conference. Plus a gaping hole at the 4. In fact, the pick the Nets still have from the Denver trade is actually owed to them by the very Clippers. But it's fun to say "The Clips are the Clips", and figure out ways to screw them.
Just FYI, the Nets used one of their TEs on Campbell (5M). They used half of their 10M TE on Robinson. So they now have 1 TE that is around 5M or so. I think slightly below the MLE level. When it comes to the Clippers, I think it is ridiculous to talk trades with them. They operate totally different than any team in the NBA. Keep in mind that team is going be be UNDER the cap again this year when Kittles comes off the books. I dont see them making any trades. They are just going to keep getting 1st rounders to add cheap talent to their roster.
Brand? Since when are we in the running for him? I definately see Chandler and Wilcox since they are young guys either on or coming off of their rookie contracts.....but a max player like Brand???? As far as the topic at hand, I agree that Wilcox is a guy that we should keep our eyes on. I would like to see us take a strong look at Chandler, Swift and Kwame Brown since they are going to be FA's. Also, let's not forget about guys like Wayne Simien, Ronny Turiaf, Hakim Warrick, Charlie Villanueva, etc who are all within striking distance in the draft. Would I trade the pick for Wilcox? Yes, but having the chance to draft some of the above mentioned makes that a tough decision. Either way, words can't really describe how happy I am we will actually have a pick this year and that we weren't foolish enough to trade it away for 1/2 season rentals like Donyell Marshall or Gary Payton.
It is possible we didn't trade away the pick because we can't. Not outright. Yeah, we can draft, sign and trade, but we can't trade away our own consecutive draft picks. Brand? Maybe I started that. We have all those expiring contracts, and Sterling won't want to keep Brand around as he becomes more expensive. But he probably isn't ready to trade him, either. Wilcox would be an excellent addition, but how much money will he command? Would expiring contracts and #1 picks (our draft picks aren't gonna be that great) get it done? Wilcox would be excellent to play PF and backup C. Unless Stromile signs here for the MLE, and I have my doubts about that.
Misinformation. You can't be without a first round pick for 2 years into the future. Our 2005 pick has been and is available to trade ever since the conclusion of the 2004 draft.
There is a group of posters on this board that for 2-3 years has been obsessed with trading for Brand. I don't have clue why they think that we actually could get him or afford to keep him, but they keep posting anyway.
