Brian Cook of Illinois is looking so far like a player that could have potential to rise on draft lists. Coming into the season, the feeling was that he has major potential to improve and be a serious player at the PF spot. Cook is a 6-10 240-245 PF who's strength is his rebounding. So far he has been all over glass and has showed incredible rebounding and hustle. Cook is also a good high post passer who passes well to the guards facing the defense from the top of the arc. He still needs to develop a pet move in the post and further refine his moves in the post. Most of his scoring so far in the first few Illinois games has been from quick spin move dunks or receiving and finishing off a penetrating guard. I want to see this year if he can show more moves in the post which I feel would help him at the next level. His game in the post right now is solid but not spectacular yet. I have also noticed that if open he will take shots from the perimeter, 18 to 20 ft, though his shooting from there appears inconsistent. Cook holds his position well on defense, moves well laterally and is looking like an adequate but not spectacular shot blocker so far. In terms of running the floor, Cook is average, not a gazelle but still adequate. As of now, Brian Cook has a pretty solid PF body which I think he will continue to bulk up. He's a rough and rugged player that plays with a lot of intensity and has potential to be really good. This is one player I would keep an eye on to see how much he improves over the course of the season.
