Okay, I was probably the last person to ever see "The Matrix" (watched it this past Saturday), and even though I really liked the movie, I didn't find myself enthralled with Keanu Reeves' performance. Now, I have seen several of his movies in the past in the Bill and Ted stuff, "Point Break", and "Speed", and although those movies were entertaining in their own right, other than being vacuous (like he was in the Bill and Ted stuff), I just don't think that Reeves is that great of an actor. I think he has done an excellent job at choosing the movies to be in, and the success of those movies were from the action, special effects, stunts, fight scenes, etc. In other words, Reeves has become a success due to the movies he is in, not the other way around. So, here is the question: Is Keanu Reeves' success due to the movies he has been in or is it because he really is a good actor?
'm alos not thrilled with his acting, i do not know why but i do not think he is a great actor. he played sme good roles, Like speed, the devils advocate, and the matrix, but i think those moovies would be a succes with or without him
i don't think there's anyway that anyone would honestly say he's a kickass actor...unless they had a crush on him or something.
His 2 best performances (not saying much) were in Parenthood and I Love You To Death. One review (I think The Replacements) said "Once again, Keanu Reeves seems surprised to be in a movie".
If he's playing a role where the character has no clue what's going on, he's typically fine. If he's playing a role where the character is supposed to be bright, he's generally crap.
My wife says that Keanu is like children, should be seen and not heard, or as she puts it after a couple of drinks; the best Keanu is a silent, naked, Keanu.
Well, he can act...A Walk in the Clouds, Devil's Advocate, Dangerous Liaisons...all quality performances. He just chooses to be a "movie star"...
really?? Devil's Advocate??? you thought he did a good job in that movie?? he just always seems too forced for me....
I havent seen it yet. There is still alot of "yesterdays" movies, hell, even "last weeks" movies that I haven't seen yet and have no intention to see. I'm not a movie guy.
Keanu Reeves is one of the worst actors Hollywood has to offer. He's horrible. Anyone who thinks he can act hasn't seen his mind-numbingly awful work in Dracula (which, not coincidentally, is one of the worst movies ever made). Sheets of paper have more depth than Reeves does. And while I'd normally be inclined to agree with Mulder's wife -- that a terrible actor can be forgiven if he gets naked -- I can't even find solace there because I find Reeves to be physically unappealing as well. He has a freakishly long torso and weird, stubby little legs. He can hide it with clothing, but it's sadly obvious when the costumes come off. So to answer your question Manny, I think Keanu Reeves' success has been due to the movies he's been in as opposed to any real acting ability.
Any lead, who can carry a film to great success, on more than one occassion, is about as good as you can get. Try to name all of the actors that have had a successful horror, action, drama, and comedy. And been the lead in most of them. Only a handful.
hey!! take that back!!! my first date with my wife was to see Dracula. There's really nothing like starting out a long-term relationship which unfolds into a marriage with a movie about bloodsuckers, I think. Any marriage with a foundation in carnage and macabre is really a good one, in my book.
Hmmm...I wonder what that says about you, Max. Of course, my first date with Jeff was to see Wayne's World, so I guess I really shouldn't be pointing fingers here...
Oh my gawd, Mrs. JB didn't like Wayne's World... Jeff, get a divorce as soon as possible. This is a travesty.
