He also confirms Pops' report in his final mock draft that the Rockets would like to move up for a high school big man. No breaking news, but interesting nonetheless: 13. Houston -- Vladimir Radmanovic, FMP Zeleznik (Yugoslavia) The Rockets are hoping Johnson slips to 13. But it's looking unlikely. They do covet Radmanovic and his agent actually wants him to be in Houston. They're looking to make a trade or two but probably only with one of the picks. They'll need to go big a few spots lower if they draft Radmanovic. Haywood, Loren Woods, Jason Collins, Steven Hunter and Zach Randolph will get consideration. Up next, the Warriors second first-round pick. But first a question on the Rockets' options ... Ray, Amsterdam, N.Y.: Will the Rockets trade for a top pick in the draft? Katz: The Rockets are looking to trade one, possibly two of their three first-round picks. They would like to move up to get one of the high school senior big men but they would still be satisfied with getting Radmanovic at the end of the lottery. They can still get a big man, a more experienced big man, in a few picks. His take on picks 18 and 23 will be coming shortly... http://espn.go.com/nba/draft2001/s/2001/0625/1218424.html ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. Disregard this thread, as apparently Andy Katz has lost his mind. If Woods is available at 18 and we take Haywood instead, as he predicts, I will be extremely disappointed in the judgement of our front office... ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. HP: I have, but a certain part of me holds out hope that someone like Katz would have some a tidbit or two that the rest of us didn't know about the Rockets plans. Of course, I would like for it to involve us picking up Loren Woods. He does claim to have some inside information, and it is somewhat annoying to listen to him predict that we would take Haywood and Haston over Woods. I would take Woods before I would Radmanovic most likely. ------------------ The Mo Taylor Fan Site "Basketball players win basketball games. Isn't this the 2nd "draft gooroo" that has Loren Woods going really low? Chris Monter I think was the other. Maybe there's something to all this? ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...

We could easily take Woods at 13, Radmanovich 18, and Haston or another C at 23. I doubt Woods will be available at 13 though, but Radman should be. If we hold on to pick 13 I would think Rad would be our man. ------------------ Who needs teachers? I can learn my own self. DieHard Mock Time
My guess from everything I'm reading now is that there's no way Radmanovich lasts until #18. ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...

Wow... Tyson Chandler #2 and Eddie Griffin #5? Interesting. And Pau Gasol does slide... all the way to #10 to Boston. Even more interesting. Wouldn't be surprised if the Rockets move up to Detroit's #9 if Gasol is available then. In that scenario, the Rockets would unload picks #13 and #18 and probably not get Gasol until next season (due to the buyout) -- leaving even more cap room for this season if I'm correct. Capologists? BTW, if I'm Detroit, I would strongly consider #13 and #18 for #9. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Not surprised to see Chandler that high. Apparently Elgin Baylor is intrigued by him and he had an especially strong workout for the Clippers. Celtics management is very high on Chandler as well. Their head scout had nothing but praise for Tyson. The rumor is that he and Kwame Brown are facing off today in Washington and it could determine who goes number 1. I like Chandler's work ethic. Apparently he has a real drive to improve, and has already added some weight. After his workout for the Hawks his plane was delayed, so he called up the Hawks and asked if he could workout knowing that he had to workout for Washington the next day. It was just him and Bill(?) Mussleman(sp?) in a gym by themselves for over an hour. The word on Griffin is that despite what GM's are saying, like his attitude and past aren't a problem, that they are a little put off by that, especially considering the recent events concerning Deshawn Stevenson. Griffin is in the same boat as Lamar Odom was two years ago. Odom dropped even though he should have gone number one, and the same could happen to Griffin. He won't last past 5 though. I agree with the Hawks pick, but they'll take Brown in a second if he's on the board. The Hawks head scout called Battier "The best player to come out in 10 years in terms of intangibles, like reading defensive rotations and gaining respect immediately from the veterans." Murphy? I've heard the Pistons want Haywood which is why I could see us trading with them, but only if Gasol or Johnson are on the board. I don't think Cleveland will take Gasol, especially with Lucas as their coach, and Golden State isn't that enamored with Gasol from what I've heard. So it is possible that Gasol falls that low. Did you know what Rodney White had a draft party on saturday? What kind of clown has a draft party Saturday? He must have a guarantee from a certain team. ------------------
When have these so called experts ever been right about the Houston Rockets in drafting. I know Rudy and CD will do what they can to help this team get to the next level and thats all I need to know at this point. Hell yeah I'm ready to see who Rudy T. and CD draft... ------------------
Correction Clutch Upon further review, all draft picks count as salary up until they sign a non-NBA contract or the beginning of the Regular Season whichever is later and reapply to Salary of July 1st the next year. In other words, picks always count as salary during summer free agent maneuvers.
Brendon Haywood is so freaking soft mentally and physically. He's going to be another Benoit Benjamin and or Ike Austin. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
I actually like Andy Katz a bit. He came to BC for a career fair, once (his dad's a prof here), so I had a chance to talk to him. I asked him about his job, and he said that what makes his career most difficult (ha, poor sap) is that he feels he has two roles: 1. he's supposed to report what he knows and 2. he's supposed to analyze the situation (and players obviously) himself. This can lead to conflicting issues because the two don't always jibe well. He also said it was hard to tell what sources were truthfully telling you - and what they want everyone else to THINK. I guess that's sort of line CNN being the best source for Iraq trying to figure out what the US is doing. ESPN serves the same purpose, I suppose. He said that it was difficult, sometimes, to tell the differences. And even if a journalists SUSPECTS misinformation, there's still a great temptation to report it anyway, for the purpose of getting the scoop. Just thought I'd drop that in his defense. tpl: Good post. I'm a bit worried that if both Murphy and Radmanovic are on board, the Rockets will chose Murphy. I just don't see the same sort of upside -well, I've never seen Vlad/Rad play, but he's REPUTED to have all that up-side. ------------------ Newbiehad... coming to a bbs near you, October 31st.
I'm in agreement with partner in terms of how a Euro would work out. But, one neato effect-Pau would count on the cap, and we can't get him out of his Euro contract. We then use our cap space however, and go up to the limit (let's presume 42 mill). When the regular season starts, Pau would come off the cap since he'd already be under a European contract, giving us cap space (not very much, probably around 1-1.5 mill) but, it can be used the same as a trade exception. I would be absolutely giddy if we came out of the draft with Woods and Radman, and there's no doubt in my mind we'd take Woods over Haywood. ------------------ "I think alot of people find Cato's game to be very offensive." -aelliott, comparing the offensive skills of Kelvin Cato and Michael Olowokandi
