Not sure if anyone already mentioned this, I searched old posts and couldn't find anything about it, so here it is. http://espn.go.com/nba/draft2001/s/2001/0606/1210483.html According to Katz: June 6: Greece's Lazaros Papadapoulos – is at the Chicago pre-draft camp and that's a sign that a few of the top players might be pulling their names from the draft. The word in Chicago is that F.C. Barcelona's Pau Gasol might withdraw by June 20, honor his final year of his contract, and then enter next season when he could go higher than late in the lottery. Watching him in Barcelona last week on television, the 7-foot-1 Gasol does have Dirk Nowitzki-like skills as a face-the-basket, ball-handling small forward. More teams will start to pursue him the longer he keeps the NBA at bay. That's bad news for us if he does withdraw, not only would we not have a shot at him, but it weakens the value of our picks. ------------------ "You couldn't have stuck a pin up his @#! with a jackhammer. Yeah, I'd say he was pretty tight." -- Barkley on Minnesota's Chris Carr(thx RocksMillenium)after he missed a game winning free-throw. [This message has been edited by today (edited June 08, 2001).]
I wonder if this is part of the game that Gasol and his agents might be playing to make sure teams trade up for him and take him in the top 5. ------------------
