So... let's say I live in the middle of Katy, and my office is downtown. What kind of commute can I expect? What kind of freeway construction is going on? Will it get better in the years to come? Just doing a little research. I've always lived on the Southeast side of town.
I nearly built a house off Mason near Cinco Ranch. Couldn't do it. The traffic west of Eldridge, both ways, is always ridiculous. I live at Kirkwood and I-10. Average commute time for me to downtown to get to court is about 30-35 minutes. If I lived on Mason Road, it would be closer to an hour. My brother lives out there...he and his wife take Park and Ride everyday. They love it. He brings a book...music...or something to entertain himself, and says he loves the time to himself.
I live near Fry Rd. and Clay. In what area of Katy are you? There's MANY! Option 1: Drive. Option 2: Carpool with a buddy (SwoLy-D). Option 3: Take the bus from the Park & Ride. Option 4: Take a stranger's ride from the Park & Ride. I have tried them all and I love 3 and 2. I have done 2 the most. I don't recommend 1, unless you have comedy CDs and don't care about mileage on your car, or gas money, or if you come in at 6 or 7 to work and leave the office to drive back to KT at 3. I recommend 4 if you don't have the $$$, because many people pick up INTO town and BACK to Katy from the bus stops downtown. Today, I did Option 1 because I have to pick up my kids near Gessner & Westheimer.I will be glad to talk ROX or TEXANS or ASTROS with someone on my way to work. I'm a HOMER all the way, baby.
If you can carpool, then it wouldn't be that bad. They've opened new lanes west of Hwy 6 where the HOV lane exit/entrance is, so that's not too big an issue anymore. If you have to drive the whole way in, I'd probably pass though.
A friend of mine here at work in Utah just got a job with Ernst & Young, and he knows he's going to be living in Katy. So mostly I'm asking for him. On the other hand, I'd really like to move back to Houston, so I'm working the connections. Unfortunately, his job will be a lot less technical than it is here, so odds don't look good for me.
NYC, baby! man i used to hate the traffic in houston. nowadays, i can just walk out of my house and go anywhere i need to without having to fire up my landcruiser, sweet.
Thanks codell. That's helpful regarding the construction issues. I had some vague idea that there was construction going on, but I definitely haven't experienced it first hand. The last time I actually live in Houston was the summer of '02, and I just remember that Katy Freeway traffic was bad, and I can only imagine that it's gotten worse.
there's a very logical, matter-of-fact approach to your posts that i enjoy and find amusing! You're the Han Solo of this board. "I was born here ya know." "You're gonna die here ya know....convenient."
ROFL. Han Solo: Where did you dig up that old fossil? Luke: Ben is a great man. Han Solo: Yeah, great at getting us into trouble.
KUDOS. ( is KUDOS the right word here?) University students, like me, get a huge-o discount. $20 where I am will buy you a SEMESTER-LONG pass which pays for itself with about ONE WEEK of bus rides. If everyone used the bus, we'd have less congestion. Sorry... don't want to make this a D&D thread but someone please be my guest and agree or disagree and elaborate...
after i posted it, i was sure you'd put it in your signature! it's cool to be the Han Solo of the board! i'd put it in my sig, too. i'm too whatever-the-word-is-for-not-practical for that, though!
