Hey guys, quick question. A friend of mine is looking to buy a house in Houston, and he's trying to minimize his cost of home and traffic time as much as possible. (aren't we all?) The office is in the Galleria area, and he's looking into maybe buying a house in Katy. I'm sure some of you live out there and work near the Galleria. What kind of commute can he expect? I would guess that he plans on arriving at the office at around 8:00 AM. Thanks! By the way, if anyone else has better suggestions for where to buy a home that would be great to. I'm not much help because I just rent.
Depends which part of Katy. If he's close to the Westpark Tollway he can take that in. There has been a ton of construction going on at I-10 and a lot of it is finished. I'm not sure what the drive time is from there these days.
if he wants to minimize his commute to work, the last place he should be living is in Katy. btw, how's the knee coming along?
I live in Katy south of I-10 & work in the Galleria. I have about an hour commute one way if I leave later than 6:30 am, and around 45 minutes if I leave earlier. The Westpark Tollway is expensive ($4 one-way from one end to the other) and the traffice has increased tremendously the longer it's been open. I've found the quickest and most cost-efficient way to get to work is good old Westheimer Rd.
I wish you would have asked me last week. I had surgery on August 4, and the recovery has been going great since then. But right now I'm actually in India on a business trip (I've pretty much been here all of October). Last week I was coming out of the shower and I slipped on some wet tile. I'm very very afraid to say that I think I may have reinjured my knee. I'm going to an orthopedic here in India tomorrow to have it looked at. The one thing that I don't want to hear is that I've re-torn my ACL after all the rehab and everything. But I can definitely tell that the knee is much weaker than before the slip. In fact, to me it feels about the same as it did right before I had the surgery. I guess I'll let you know when I find out more. I bet THAT was more of an answer than you were bargaining for.
I loved Katy, but the drive into town really is pure hell.. I would have to go into work between 5-6am just to beat the traffic.. This past year I ended up moving closer into town to be by the office, I plan on moving back to the burbs in Katy or Saraland when I have kids.. If he wants to be into the office at 8 he would need to leave the house at least by 7 or earlier to take I-10 into town.. I'10 at HWY6 is still a total b**** in the mornings.. If he really wants to live in Katy and still have a good drive I would move close to Westpark like Faos said..
Katy High Class of 87. Got out of there and never looked back. And Mr. MEOWGI, if Katy may be Hell but Clear Lake is no utopia.
Depends where in Sugarland I would guess. Some of the neighborhoods are pretty far out from 59 so you have a long drive just to get to 59 in the first place. I've visited friends in Sugarland/Missouri City after work and the traffic to get back into the neighborhoods are pretty bad. I live on the NW side of town and 290 is probably the worse highway there is. Luckily my last two jobs I've worked off the Beltway so I just hop on there and go to work. 15-20 minutes in the morning and 20-25 minutes going home.
It can be a bore too, but at least it has some "color". Now I have a friend that bought a house Fair Field and that beats them all. I am more than uncomfortable there.
I live in KATY and have been driving/leeching/HOVing/carpooling/park-n-riding for FOUR years. I have NO PROBLEM with it and don't complain as much as the rest of the people. I live in the Fry@Clay area. ALL of you who don't do the HOV are just silly or lazy. In fact, I would be the equivalent of TINMAN calling people without HDTV cheapskates when I would call you SILLY for not carpooling while the construction has been going on. I can't believe you don't praise what great construction has been going on at the Katy Freeway... almost complete. You can see the changes. It will be a MASS move from other places to Katy just because it will be so much easier to drive in to work. I leave at 6:20 and arrive at work at about 7:00 or even 7:10... I leave at 4:15 and get home at about 5 p.m. finalsbound and Voodoopope, would you ever go back? Why or why not? Da-Glyde, hammer775, why aren't y'all driving/leeching/HOVing/carpooling/park-n-riding? It's beyond me.
I don't HOV because I don't work Downtown. I don't car pool because I never know what I might need to do that day. I might have to go onsite to a customer at the last minute.
I love Katy. **** the hatahs. In a couple years when the construction on I-10 is completed, that drive will be nice. Of course, I'm still trying to figure out why they only made the Westpark two lanes in each direction.
You don't have to. You can HOV to the PostOak Northwest TC and then do another bus from there. Saves you GAS AND MONEY.
i know the expansion lanes will help with traffic. but when more people move out to West Houston (and it seems everyone is doing it), wouldn't traffic be right back where it is now?
My company has at least a half-dozen free VPSI van pools coming in from the area, and I ride it whenever I can, but my schedule is extremely irregular, so I can't always leave the office when the van does. Most of them also leave extremely early in the morning, and I've never been an early riser.
