First, Malone is not a Rox.

Second, this is nothing to do with game action.

First, there are several Rox mentioned on that website

Second, there are lots of threads that have nothing to do with game action (See Yao's abandoning his Sequoia thread)

Third, DON'T CLICK ON THIS THREAD!!!

Malone probably developed some techniques of using elbows and knees to hurt people while playing basketball. His techniques must be very fluid so that people can not tell whether it is intentional or just as a result from playing basketball.

In the martial arts world, Thai boxing is famous for using elbows and knees in hurting pepole. I wonder if Malone has watched some Thai boxing or not when he was young.

    He still does, occasionally.

I know I shouldn't reply here, but I've recently updated that page to include the Steve Nash assault. There's a picture of Nash complaining to the ref, pointing to his bloody lip......

Can you include the Isiah Thomas beating, which was a result of Thomas dumping 40+ on his boyfriend because he didn't make the Olympic Team.

That site is why as much as I acknowledge his accomplishments over the course of his career, I can never respect him as a person.

Malone's jump shot is designed to kick people in the balls who try to put a hand in his face.

Some of the ELBOWS/PUNCHES that Malone has thrown

Dave Ramer - Rice University - elbow to face, never plays again

Isiah Thomas – elbow, 40 stitches

Derek Smith - elbow to face - almost ended career

David Robinson - elbow, knocked him unconscious

Brian Grant - elbow - 10k fine, but foul was called on Grant

Greg Anthony - elbow, in same playoff series as Grant

Joe Kleine – elbow, required plastic surgery

    Othella Harrington - threw punch

Christian Laettner - elbow to head

Steve Nash - elbow to face, even though Nash was behind him and no one between him and any other player to pass it to

Shawn Bradley - Knee to stomach after elbow thrown at his head earlier in the game

Dirk Nowitzki - Pulled on already injured shoulder

Derrick Coleman - Malone throws an elbow at Derrick Coleman who throws a punch and is thrown out, fined and suspended

players like karla should be banned from playing bball. if he denies he's intentional then it must be his technique which is dangeous to other players and players should be allowed to refuse to play against or even with him (remember ostreteg was elbowed by teamate karla last yr).

And inspite of his physical (dirty!) play...he's only missed FOUR games in his career to injury.

    Freak.

I will never forget an image from years ago of Malone staring Vernon Maxwell right in the face while giving him an elbow to the jaw. It was the most clearly intentional elbow to the face I have ever seen before or since in the NBA. And they called the foul on Max!!

I'm sure part of it was the message to a guard of "What are you doing in here trying for a rebound? This is my territory." Nevertheless, that to me was the defining moment in my hatred of Karl Malone. I am forced to give him the grudging acknowledgement of being a great player, but I can't give him any Respect because a player who deals out that much physical punishment has no business taking the flops that he always has.

I agree with the website. What I can least understand is how the referees have allowed both aspects of this guy's career. EVERYBODY knows that he flops. Almost everybody knows he's a dirty player. Yet the referees continue to call the charges when he flops, and continue to look the other way when he throws an elbow. WHY? WHY? WHY?

That sounds exactly like the Steve Nash assault. If you have an approx. date, let me know and i'll add it to the site.

Thanks to adeelsiddiqui for the list -- I will look up the Derek Smith incident on Nexis and add it, too!

Don't forget to click the Complain to the NBA link on the site!

I really wish I could narrow it down for you, but it's one of those cases where the initial play and the slow-motion replay confirming what I thought I had just seen stayed with me over the ensuing decade while the details of the context faded. I'm 95% sure it was during the regular season (otherwise, I don't think I'd have lost the context). I know it was before the first championship season (most of which I spent in England), and I am pretty sure it was before his Dream Team appearances in 1992, because I remember thinking this guy and his dirty play didn't fit the "Dream Team" image. (Of course, part of that may have been my frustration that he was on the team and not Kevin McHale.)

Nevertheless, this would pretty much indicate that this was sometime during the 1990-91 or 91-92 seasons. Sorry I can't narrow it down any further than that.

I'll keep looking, but so far I haven't found anything involving Maxwell and Malone. I came up with a lot about Derek Smith and Elliot Perry, though. In November 1994, Perry was knocked unconscious and sent to the hospital the same day he was named NBA player of the week! Malone sure hates competition.....
