"The best guy to be out there".........interesting. I am convinced a tree stump would pose a greater threat to receivers. At least it could get in the way of some routes.
Yea, he is pretty much stuck on Kareem. During the presser, he sounded almost defiant when Wex asked him about this, the guy will sink with Jackson.
I do not put all the blame on Jackson. He has had NO veteran leadership. Cornerback (other than QB) has to be the toughest position to transition to in the NFL. Besides, we have no on better than him to play in his place. His mechanics are screwed up (he gets turned around too easily and too slow to react--which go hand in hand). Thankfully, that is a coachable fix. What I have issue with is his speed, which we can do nothing about. He's flat out slow. People who know about football more than I say he will be a find DB in the NFL. Jackson's shortcomings are also more apparent because we have HORRIBLE safeties in coverage. Where was the over the top help on Tutu's first TD? Pollard was a good 20 yds off the ball.
I'm not surprised that Kubiak would double up on the stupid, because stubbornness is a common trait in bad coaches.
the problem begins with the pass rush. a good pass rush can make average safeties looks good and the texans pass rush has been poor. also the face that frank bush runs a vanilla offense to where ncaa qb's could figure it out after a couple of plays
He said something like "if you don't stick with your guys, you won't make it very long in this business". ...and that couldn't be more false. In fact, you could probably argue that a lot of coaches lose their job because they are too stubborn to make adjustments. Bill Belichick went with Tom Brady over the proven Bledsoe and has made numerous other unpopular changes and has still been successful. The Saints didn't force feed Reggie Bush with 25 carries a game when they discovered he wasn't going to be the feature running back, despite spending a top 5 pick on him.
Um, well who do we have that's any better? Our entire secondary sucks at coverage. Heck, as long as we are playing Wilson at free safety instead of Nolan, Jackson is still one down on the list of things to fix...
Anyway, the Texans are pretty much out of contention after this loss, so might as well see if Jackson can get better.
I'm not gonna crucify them for letting Dunte walk. The mistake was not having a backup plan when drafting Kareem Jackson to an already suspect secondary.
Jackson's problem is not the pass rush. He is getting beat IMMEDIATELY. Often times at the line of scrimmage or a step into the route and the QB has released the ball before the pass rush even has a chance to react. What you are saying is true most of the time, but Jackson is in a category by himself at this point. I have never seen a DB get beat so fast, so consistently.
Have you looked at the schedule? Have you looked at how many teams are ahead of us in the division (hint: it's all of them)? I'll said it again, we probably need at least 10 wins, maybe 11, to make the playoffs this year. Look at the games ahead of us. Do you really think we can go 6-2, especially with this defense?
Let me ask you guys a legitimate question: Do you think Gary Kubiak is dumb? I mean: really, really dumb? I don't. So to back Jackson in the face of such overwhelming public screeching would lead me to believe they're seeing things we're not; more specifically, that he's doing what he's supposed to be doing and the problem may be with scheme and/or safety help or... (?). Again, I don't think Kubiak is dumb: He knows Jackson is getting picked on, he knows his job is likely on the line - if he's that adament about Jackson... he's either saying something different behind closed doors or we don't know the whole story. Or, you know - Kubiak is really, really dumb.
Not only the schedule, I don't care what the team's record is. Based on how they are playing, they are not gonna sniff the playoffs. One game out of first means ****s when any middle school QB in the country can put up 400 yards on your offense. They are only gonna get worse
