http://www.nba.com/2009/playoffs2009/06/11/kareem.dwight.criticism.ap/index.html More on the link. Kareem hit it right on the spot. Dwight Howard needs to develop a better offensive game, but has the potential to do so. He is a great defensive player though.
They would get him easier looks, but they wouldn't make him a go to guy. That's why they are saying he needs to develop his offensive skills.
I'm glad Howard took it as constructive criticism. I would have loved to see Shaq's response at a similar point in his career.
Yes you are right but the discussion was that Kareem said and I am parapharazing here "Howard may never become a dominant low post player". So in that case you get him a top flight PG and unleash him on the rest of the league. Can you imagine what Nash or Paul would do to his game? Tyson Chandler has made a career and 10 million a year just catching lob passes and alley-hoops from CP3. Heck look at Amare and the stats he does with Nash.
Kareem, is right, of course. By the way, this is why Yao and the Rockets have had success against him. He is gifted, but if you do your homework (and is 7'6'', 300 lbs) you can be in position to bother most of his shots.
He's right but the sheer fact that Dwight is unstoppable 90% of the time even despite his opponent knowing what's coming speaks for itself.
agree, if dwight ever team up with a wing that can create his own shot and draw double team like a guy like dwade or a pg like cp3, he would be like
Hey Dwight, this is how you do it <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/zszfIDp81Fg&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/zszfIDp81Fg&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I don't mean to detract but who is the guard that decks the Laker in the beginning of the clip? That was f'n hilarious! He didn't even try to hide it. He was sending a message.
Agreed. That was a very classy on Dwight's part. I've been critical of his maturity in the past but he did the right thing here. If he keeps that sort of attitude and keeps working hard he may become unstoppable. Kareem was stating what we all knew but he should probably get back to working with Bynum before the kid regresses any further.
Dwight Howard is going to be a good player simply because he's got a strong work ethic. He'll pick up good moves and so forth. Right now though he's got to work on going to the basket quicker before the double team collapses on him.
except shaq went to college, learned post moves, and frankly even in college was never so lacking in post moves. people think because of his freakish athleticism all he did was dunk. couldn't be further from the truth. at age 23 shaq was averaging 20 shots a game as opposed to dwight's 10.
so is Yao, who when on defense, always try to draw a charging call on on the penetrator. because of his slow reaction and slow afoot, invariably, he would not be set when the collision takes pace. tends to stay in the semi-circle, as if he doesn't know that, whenever there is contact, it is an automatic foul on the defenderwhen being double teamed, gets flustered, forgets to play BIG, keeping the ball within reaching distance of the defenders.
Remove Hedo from the Magic's lineup..Howard will be useless.... Centers usually peak at a later age so i guess he'll be polished by age 28
does anyone else think this is a funny comment from Kareem considering that his protege is Andrew Bynum?
