    Serious case of homerism, here

    http://www.sbsun.com/sports/ci_3506153

Click the link for the whole story but here's a choice excerpt:

"I'm not like a wild, Ted Nugent psycho,'' Kaman said, referring to the 1970s rock star. "I'm not crazy. I don't like heavy metal. I don't enjoy drinking. I'm not a big drug guy. I've never done drugs.''

What he does do, however, is average 11.4 points and 9.4 rebounds in the NBA. In his third season, Kaman, 23, already has emerged as one of the league's top centers on one of the NBA's hottest teams.

Kaman is a 7-footer who has the ability to use both power and finesse to score and defend. When he faces 7-foot-6 Yao Ming and the Houston Rockets tonight at Staples Center, Kaman is fully expected to hold his own.

Yao was voted as a starter for the Western Conference all-star team and is among the elite players in the league. But Kaman's teammate Elton Brand is upset his center was not selected to the squad.

"Kaman - I don't understand. Who's playing better than him right now?'' Brand said. "At least he'll have more years to come to be an all-star, but I really can't name any center, especially in the West, that's playing better than he is.''

Strange, if memory serves, Yao (with his toe at it's worst) had 22pts/7rebs to Kaman's 1pt/3reb last time they played.

Kaman is impressive and has played solid this year for a suprisingly good team. He's young and hustles and has talent. That said, he's no Yao Ming.

That's just Brand sticking up for his boy. I don't have a problem with his comments.

    That being said, 20.2 ppg 9.3 rpg > 11.4 ppg 9.4 rpg

Yao is gonna drop forty on this clown. actually, kaman has played pretty well, but com'on. its really hard for the media to accept that Yao is slowly becoming the best center in the league and that includes the suns playing amare at center. amare doesn't rebound so he has no advantage on Yao. the only player who immediately is in the running of supplanting this title from shaq besides yao is howard, if orlando starts playing him at center.

I just lost all respect for Brand. It's one thing to back your team mate up, but he just claimed that Kaman is the best center in the west.
Me says it's time for Brand to get a drug test. You can never trust a Clipper :p .

I think EB is saying Kavman should be Yao's sub. He has to be crazy to say Kaman is playing better than yao.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Which is worse? AI wearing a throwback jersey on the bench or Chris Kaman's ugly mug/hair on my tv screen tonight?

    I'm going with the latter.

I'm sorry - but Kaman doesn't just need a haircut, he needs to be shaved bald and given electrolysis so none of that crap on his dome will ever grow back again.

there on the same team what do you expect Brand to say.. "Yeah Yao dominates Kayman all the time he has no chance!" LOL

like pga said earlier Brand is just backing up his teammate dont take it too serious.

Anyways time for Yao to dominate this game and show everyone who is the top center in the West.

haha...Kaman better than Yao? I'd even take Brad Miller over Kaman.

Hopefully Yao will continue his strong play and drop 30+ on him!

Elton Brand is drinking the Erick Dampier juice. 11 points and 9 rebounds is hardly All-star worthy.

Every center can be an all-star but Yao cant.

Even Brand's stats is overrated. He wont pull those numbers again if Cassell doesnt play for Clippers next season.

    Dont even mention Kaman.

Not according the quote like this "but I really can't name any center, especially in the West, that's playing better than he is"

If it is what you said, it will be "but I really can't name any center, especially in the West :D (except Yao), that's playing better than he is"

Brand has to lie, I mean, he has to work with Kaman all year. To his credit, Kaman is doing better than expected and is overall solid on the team, but yeah, definite homerism going on here.

I watch the Clip play the Bulls the other night and I don't see what's so great about Kaman. Actually I thought he was their weakest link in that game as he took the most shot in the 4th qtr where they were mostly bad and off balance shot and they lost b/c of him. The only good thing I see from him is hussle...dude is everywhere and gets a little too crazy at time causing unneccesary turn over.

Kaman's underrated. He's not as good as Yao, but he's got the fundamentals of being a center down pat. He's cut down his turnovers, his fouls, and blown defensive assignments. He's a good help defender and low post scorer. It's almost amazing to see how comfortable and reliable he is on the low block. He's suprisingly agile and has good post moves. He doesn't just barrel into people like Curry. He's ambidexterous and can shoot from either side with either hand. The only reason he doesn't get more points is because there's no room left for him after Brand, Cassell, and Mobley.

Still, Yao's much better than him. They play very similarly, but what gives Yao the edge is that Kaman cannot handle double teams very well. Whenever a team decides to quickly double him from the beginning of the game to the end he gets flustered and makes bad decisions. You can tell he's not used to it. If he continues to develop and starts getting used to double teams, he's going to be a force to be reckoned with. That's a big if, though, because I haven't see him effective against a double team for any long period of time.
