JVG's teams always seem to lack creativity. Think the Knicks. He seems to take away most of individual creativity. Of course disciplined offense is always better than freelancing but he seems to overdo it. I like Rudy's style a little better.
That's not exactly groundbreaking news... we already knew that... JVG, in his nine years as head coach in the NBA, has YET to find a balance of running and halfcourt settings in order to be effective...until he finds that balance, the offense will always be in disarray...
We looked pretty creative when we won 5 straight road games out west late last year. Remember the Suns game in Phoenix? We were down by 14 in the 3rd quarter and won by 20. Please get off this JVG/Knicks thing. He is a different coach now and proved last year he was flexible in adjusting his schemes to fit the team. I used to think it was only the national media talking heads who didn't see the Rockets last year who still harped on JVG and his Knick days. Did you even notice the change last year when T-Mac was given the green light to shoot whenever he wanted? Did you know JB has the OK to pull up and shoot 3s on the fast break? Have you ever seen JVG standing up telling the team to run run run the ball down on offense after getting a rebound? You think the SF and Cat iso show during Rudy's last couple of years here was creative? Most of us got pretty tired of the same old one on ones, crossovers and turnovers. My criticism of JVG is the slow starts. It takes much too long for the Rockets to gel and come together. A couple of examples: It shouldn't have taken T-Mac 20 games and JH 40 games to find their grooves last year. In T-Mac's case, I realize some of it was getting rid of Jim Jackson but the rest was on JVG.
I love threads like this because they are so much like the ones that popped up last year when he struggled out of the gates...give me a break...i cant wait to see the FIRE VAN GUNDY NOW threads
