    Muchachos and Muchachas,

Here is an interview with our former coach. Not at his best, by the way.

    Three points on the interview:

    1) JVG needs to upgrade to a better cell phone service.

    2) JVG speaks about his struggles and the communities struggle after Hurricane Ike.

    3) JVG is very happy living in Houston. But can't wait until he is back north coaching the Nets! :p

    Enjoy

Am I the only one who thinks that he didn't do a good job at coaching the Rockets?

    Who still cares about him?

He's a very insightful and intelligent guy. So to answer your question, I care about what he has to say.

I like him more as a commentator.. as a coach.. not so much.

there is only so much "feed it to Yao, if you can't.. shoot a 3ptr" offense one can take.

What are your points on why you think JVG was not a good coach?

that will never happen. after the flexibility that the players are getting with Adelman's system, they will not tolerate the stuborness of jvg. by the way his exit from houston wasn't a good one either.

hes smart, funny insightful and displays low ego. 50 win season with yao tmac and a bunch of scrubs. if it wasnt for the donaghy rigging the series against the mavs who know how far we wouldve gone.

so you think with having YAO and Tmac on the same team, he has an achievement to get to the playoffs? how many other coaches got to the playoffs with lesser talent on their roster?

yao tmac? you do not think that that is more than what most of other teams have? Scrubs? we had a very good supporting cast that year talking about the mavs series, who did the mavs have besides Nowitzki and Howard and a bunch of scrubs and we lost 2 home games?

how about the lakers series (0-4) how about the Jazz series?

Adelman's offense is more interesting for the fan to watch. Hopefully it takes us to the Championship.

I think JVG is a great coach, and could win a championship with a squad full of "his" players (such as the Knick team he took to the finals). The problem is you can give him a great team that should probably win titles, but if they don't all fit his mold it's probably not going to work.

I love the way he instills discipline in his players though and strives to be perfect on the basketball court on both ends of the floor, to the point where he can hardly even enjoy a victory. This discipline has carried over to the team we still have today, mostly on the defensive end. Unfortunately our offense didn't have the perfect players for his offense, and he didn't try to adapt it enough.

Just listened to the interview. Jeff wasn't that bad, but the hosts sure didn't help. Too bad Jeff works for ESPN and he had to do that interview.

    I don't see how Jeff can't find a job.

Let's just say besides Nowitski/Howard and Yao/Tmac, the next 4-5 best players were probably from the Mavs, same as the Utah situation.

What ABOUT the Lakers? It was the Francis/Mobley/Posey/Yao year vs the Kobe/Shaq/Malone/Payton/etc year? We lost that series 1-4 btw.

    ??

Ummm. Michael Finley was there second leading scorer. Stackhouse was their 6th man getting 4th in the league for 6th man of the year. Terry was fully capable of taking over games all by himself. But you are right, we had a lot of good guards that year. Sucky PFs though. Bowen starting against Nitwitz???

1st off, we won the 3rd game. It was a 5 games series. I was there. And that was the Francis/rookie Yao year. Going against the Malone, Payton three ring Lakers.

This is the scrub year. Yao went down and did not play in the playoffs. Tmac literally was surrounded by scrubs, and JVG got Juwon Howard and Deke to play out of their minds. We won 52 games with Yao out for nearly half the season. THAT was an incredible feat of coaching, imso.

Really, I understand not liking the system JVG had in place.....but to blatantly disregard the FACTS and just spew out lies is wrong. For one, the Mavs had Stackhouse, Terry, and Finley who were ALL big-time contributors. Second, we lost 3-1 to the Lakers, and if you remember ANYTHING, you remember that we had a lead in game 4, and lost it in OVERTIME against a STACKED Laker team (Malone, Payton, Shaq, Kobe). We were clearly outmatched as the freaking 8 SEED, and we still gave them the best matchup of ANY of the other West teams. And the Jazz series? Really?? The same Jazz team that went to the Western Conference Finals? The same Jazz team that is regarded as being a top 3 team this year in the West after making exactly NO changes (other than acquring Korver last year)? Seriously, get your facts straight. I agree that JVG didn't get us where we wanted to go, but give the man some credit. After all, it's the defensive fundamentals that HE TAUGHT that's still got us in the top 3 defenses in the league.

That is a very bad thing because we are still witnessing JVG basketball even after he has long gone.
