Good thread. It was great 99 % but that 1% was more important. We didn't even play good defense with Utah
absolutely. but that's the only team we should be striving to be, isn't it? why are people happy with making the 1st round, or the 2nd, or the WCF. none of that matters. ask the mavericks. its one thing if the rockets had been showing steady improvement under JVG's coaching. they didn't. what jvg did get them to do was play consistently well, but not consistently great. that's not a knock on jvg, but a testament to how difficult it is in the nba to truly be great. its time to move on. if rick adelman doesn't get it done after 4 years, i'll have no problem moving on from him too. but even if we don't win it all, at least our first or second or third round exits will be more entertaining to watch. boring 1st round exit vs exciting 1st round exit? yea they both suck, but i'll take entertaining losses over mind-numbingly frustrating losses any day of the week.
Your post assumes that the only recourse to improve the team is to fire the coach. Changing the players never occured to you I guess.
a world without absolutes never occurred to you, i guess. just because im happy with firing the coach doesnt mean i dont want personnel change. just because i think a coaching change MIGHT improve the team, doesn't mean that i dont think any roster changes need to be made. why you would assume that is beyond me. improving the team isn't a mutually exclusive decision. its not like we can only have one or the other. the same logic i applied to the expendability of coaches applies to players. if they don't get it done after a sufficient amount of time, so be it. bring in the new guard. and even if your fallacious statement WERE true, and i DID assume the only recourse were to fire the coach, even THAT assumption is not baseless. this roster is definitely lacking, but at the same time, isn't there a slight possibility that jvg didn't get everything possible out of these guys, and someone else might be able to? its easy to say changing players will help the team. that much is obvious. the hard part is getting the right players. under jvg, that seemed nearly impossible. we had tantalizing glimpses of what this team could be if the team had 'the right' players. how long do you want to keep playing that game? whatever the case, i never said a coaching change was the only way to save the team. nothing in my post assumes that. read more carefully before you try to critique me.
Thank you, I don't think that had been discussed at all in the series with Utah, post Utah, or today at any point in time. The thing is, defense alone can win games. Too bad Tmac doesn't play d, neither does Rafer. If!! and only IF you are gonna be a great defensive team, defense is played 100% of the time when the other team has the ball. Maybe if we somehow controlled CBooz we wouldn't be having this conversation. But I feel as if the horse has not only been killed on this subject, its been dead and beaten for the past 6 months.
