http://www.naz.edu/dept/athletics/halloffame/bios/vangundy.html We could sure use him as our pointguard. He also went to Yale -- for 1 year. He transferred to Nazareth so he'd get some playing time. Here's a story about it. One funny quote: "Van Gundy left Yale after his freshman year with a bitter taste in his mouth after getting cut from the basketball team and being unable to land a date with fellow freshman Jodie Foster." JVG didn't realize that Jodie doesn't date guys.
That's funny... I hadn't heard that before. Here's a little more from a Sports Illustrated interview in 2003. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/QandA/2003/0113/ SI: As a freshman at Yale, you and 12 guys in your dorm each tossed $100 into a pool during a contest to see who would ask out classmate Jodie Foster. You had a chance, but famously choked when you saw her at a movie. Let's say you had worked up the courage, how would that have gone? Van Gundy: I don't know, but in the end I would have been $1200 richer, so it would have been all good. There are some other JVG gems in that interview, including one about making the Nazareth Hall of Fame. SI: How do I get into the Nazareth College Hall of Fame, as you did in 1996? Van Gundy: With my being inducted, the standards have been lowered to being on the team, still being able to breathe, or making enough money that you can contribute back to the college.
