Just an interesting tidbit I picked up from SI's truth and rumours section: Thoughts, anyone? IMO, think JVG has done more than enough to warrant an extension this season. You may or may not like his coaching philosophy, but no-one can argue that any JVG-coached team will play hard and play good D, and always stand a chance to win even if they're outmatched talent-wise. Personally, I'd like to see him back next season and build some continuity with the guys.
Yet there are still some around here who feel that JVG isn't the right one to lead the team to a title, or that JVG isn't flexible enough to truly harness the Tmac-Yao tandem, or that JVG has "neutered" players like Novak, Bonzi, Boki, Vspan and god-knows-who in his time here. Just sayin'
JVG won't find another team better than Rox. We have two super-stars and fairly good role players. If he coaches a team like Kings, he needs to build the team from the beginning, it takes a long time for a team to adopt someone's coaching style, why bother?
I think that Les would be crazy if he let JVG walk after the season. This would be a poor management decision by the Rockets. I don't believe that we would let him go, I think it is just a bad rumor. BTW, who would we get anyway to replace JVG?
For me, either way will be ok. If he still is our coach, i hope he deveiop more plan for our O and use more vspan and novak... I just wounder, if he developed vspan and snyder then when we can not hit 3s then we can have some penetration options that will make our O more options. If he left, then we will have another great coach I belive. some change will also be great.
CD is on record saying that JVG will be back if he wants to come back. CD is not the type of person who carelessly makes important statements like that if he doesn't know what he's talking about.
The writer may be making stuff up. JVG has done great things with this team. His hard-a$$ ways don't help sometimes; he doesn't cultivate talent, and he has different views on what to do with draft picks and rookies than do Morey and CD. But lack of a contract renewal might mean something like this, given the circumstance: 1st round flameout: Bye bye JVG. Bye bye T-Mac. 2nd round and out: Les says, "So what are we looking at, Jeff?" JVG says, "I just want what's fair." WC Finals and out: JVG looks at Les and says, "Mo' money, mo' money, mo' money!" Les: (sighs) "OK, don't rub it in, Jeff." NBA Finals and out: JVG says, "I'm outta here, an Eastern Conference team made me an offer I can't refuse." Wins championship: JVG says, "Back up the Brinks truck, my wife's a big spender."
SI Truth & Rumors (like ESPN local) is simply a cut & paste ripoff yanking stories from the local papers. There should be an actual Chronicle link for this blurb. It's possible it's from one of the blogs. At first glance, it reads like a Richard Justice one. Evan
Found it, and it is Richard Justice. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/justice/4746154.html No surprise, there is no actual substance he's basing the story on. 100% pure speculation on Flopper's part. Evan
link? Rockets has became Van Gandy style team and achieved remarkable success. If we let him walk, that means to rebuild our team. Unless Phil Jackson,Larry Brown or Popovich in succession,I don't wang him go...
I don't think this is a very credible thought posted in the Chron. It's like FoxNews news: it looks like it might be news, but actually it says nothing. "JVG leaving next season?" This actually states no facts at all, therefore it is not news. Real example of same from FoxNews (sorry you Fox lovers): "NEWS ALERT: Amish gunman not on drugs." Real example of same from me: "NEWS ALERT: President not homosexual." It's not news because it doesn't report new facts. Slow day for Justice: no facts reported. HEADLINE: Rockets to Play on Motorcycles Next Season? ARTICLE: Well, it's possible I guess . . . .
I think we need to buy low. When talking about available great coaches, people tend to mention names such as Larry Brown. We need to find someone who is not household name for now, like Phil Jackson BEFORE he became famous.
