I am priviledged to get the DP Show when it airs. I know it is delayed in Houston on 610. Today JVG was on and it was a great and humorous interview. It was on around the 30-45 minute mark of the second hour(at least i think it was the 2nd hour). CK
You are indeed privledged, I too would feel priveledged if you could pass on some insight into what was actually said????????
JVG on Dan Pat show I just caught espn radio Dan Patrick show interviewing JVG 5 min ago. He talked nothing really substential about baskball, but I thought it was pretty funny. When Dan Patrick asked him about compensation Rox has to give NY, he asked if JVG was upset that Rox only gave up a 2nd rounder for him not a 1st rounder. JVG said something like "Man, no I am not upset about that. Actually I woundnt even give Knicks a pair of socks for myself since I am running Rox now. " Dan Pat also asked him about Cav's job. JVG went like this " Some paper said sources or friends close to me told it that I had accepted Cav's offer. You know what, I only have two friends, I wish I had that many friends I could have." Also he talked about how Peter Vercy(sp?)'s report on this was not accurate saying "the whole story relayed to peter by several phone calls had changed complelely" When asked what wiz offered him and why pass up that job. JVG said that wiz offered him a coaching job and he could have freedom to choose his GM. He said a lot of people like power, but he felt he's only a coach and he aksed himself which GM he would like to work with, it's CD!!! He felt Rox is the best fit. What a smart A$$, already start kissing boss's rear, hehehehe. Dan Pat asked him about his honda civic blown up in the airport back in 2000, what happened there. He explained that it was after Knick Miami game. He parked the car close by the charter plane and the plane's exhausted air blew his civic up about 100 feet away and the car was totaled. He said that time he just parked his car, stepped out of it, the next thing he knew he couldnt find his car. He tought someone pulled some trick on him as first reaction. Dan Pat joked saying thank god it was only a civic. JVG went on saying how he actually love that cat, it had FM radio, no CD player, but he likes tape player .... He said he actually compensated by the plane company by $10,000, which he thought was way more than the blue book value of that car, so he said he actually wanted to call that pliot to blow up all his other cars. He also talked about how Rudy.T was icon, and how he just want to build on what Rudy.T already had for this team, etc. At the end of the show, he again mentioned Yao, Steve, Cat are the core of the team, the story about his GM mentor told him Yao is 7'5 everyday. A really funny affable guy, down earth, driving Civic. Man, Yao and him will be a great duo talking funny things.
I don't think your post was first, but thanks for actually telling us what was said.. JVG is a funny guy.. Who knew?
Yeah, I type slow. It took me actually 10 or so minutes to type it up. Some other fellow beat me on it. I Know JVG is funny, remeber someone in NBC said once that he looked like stress out during the game, grumpy sorta lookinh, but in the practice he's a whole different person, funny kind.
Beings that I was in my car and I don't take real good short hand qhile driving 70 down the highway I can only say he told some funny stories and said he was excited to be working with CD and he can concentrate on coaching and know that the personnel stuff will be handled. He also told a great story about the blowing up of his Honda Civic. CK
Me, too...thanks, that is. It is likely to be an early summer of funny for Van Sunny. Then as he gets deeper into the work the clouds will swallow him up. By the season and during it he will not be funny. But, he will be good and he will be successful. JVG like Yao -- that's great!
If you are online, you can listen to the whole thing if you go to http://espn.go.com/danpatrick/index.html Click on "Listen: The Dan Patrick Show" on the right hand side of the page and fast forward to about 1:27 in the middle of the show. Hiliarious stuff.
