Didn't see it posted, but if it has been dod would love to lock this up. it's on ESPN2 now. I think they replay it later in the night.
i'm watching it now man, basically, talked about Yao. Gave the assistant coach the credit for Yao. Talked about last year with the injuries. Last year in of his contract. It's up to Mr. Alexander and himself. Talked about coming into the Rockets after four straight Lottery Years. About Bonzi, he said that it's too bad, but maybe he can help the team further down the line. best of my recap ability, cause i'm doing too many things. I think the show comes on again later in the night, I'd have to check ESPN listings. It came on during the last segment of his show.
Only caught the very end. Steven A. asked him if he thinks the Rockets can be lumped in with the best teams in the conference. He said no way. Said that Spurs, Mavs, Suns, and now the Jazz are clearly the upper echelon teams. Said 3 to 4 very good teams won't make the playoffs.
Cliff notes on the interview - JVG said the usual about Yao, Tmac and Shane - Said that Bonzi isn't working in Houston so far but "you can never say never in this league" and that maybe he can help us out down the road. - Said Dallas, Phoenix, SA, and Utah were the best out west.
Kam, you mean you couldn't predict the future when you posted this? Guys, he told you it was on NOW, meaning turn on your tv and switch the channel. I guess that was too much to comprehend, so here's a brief recap (I didn't really pay attention, and totally missed what was said about Yao): Tell me about Battier and Bonzi: Battier is one of the most efficient guys in the league, knows when to shoot and pass, good post game, rbs, basically how good he is in everything. It hasn't worked out w/ Bonzi yet, we hope he can help us in the future, who knows what will happen, never say never in this league. (Mostly talked about Battier, was brief on Bonzi) Rockets had a lot of pressure on them coming into this season, how did you feel: Past years Rox have had lottery picks, etc, last year hindered by injuries. I just want the team to play to it's best ability. Up to Wes about the future. Are Rox one of the top teams in the West? Not even close. We don't deserve it yet. Mavs, Spurs, Suns, now the Jazz, are top 4. Do you like my debating technique of talking louder and louder as if it made me sound more legitimate and correct? No. (Just kidding, I'm not a Stephen Smith fan.)
we have a winning record, we will be okay. I guess there are no replays that will show later in the night. my fault.
If Bonzi plays, this team could go to second round, but that's it. Rox needs a PF and a PG. Hayes is too short to be competitive in playoffs. This will create enormous pressure on Yao. In the playoff, teams are going to play exactly like Minnesota played Yao: pack the paint and let perimeter players beat them. As good as Yao is, he has to learn how to contribute when the shot is not falling. Of course, T-mac has to fix himself first.
LOL ... Sam, getting defensive, no? If you read my previous post from a different angle, I actually give JVG credit -- in advance -- for leading the Rockets to a playoff berth.
I know what you're getting at, but he really didn't imply that at all. Concerning Bonzi, he wasn't trying to lay any blame on him. Basically JVG gave a political answer to avoid the question (which is par for the course). About not being a top 4 team, I think it was that classic JVG attitude, 'we're never good enough, we always have something more to work towards.'
disagree with this entire post. if bonzi plays thats icing on an already very good team. i don't know how far we can go in the playoffs but i'm certainly not going to limit how good a yao and tracy led team can be. chuck hayes' height is far from a liability, playoff basketball or not. he's a great rebounder and great defender. he gives up height but he plays smart enough to where it's rarely an issue. he needs to cut down on fouls but i'm excited about him. as far as games played he's practically a rookie still. lets not forget that minnesota has one of the very best defenses in the league and there's not too many guys like kevin garnett roaming around other places. bottomline is yao missed a lot of shots he normally drains, good defense or not. he'll be great in the playoffs against whoever.
The Rox lack at least two more solid rotation guys. Not Top 4? Lakes might be Top 5??? Rox are on outside of Home Court Round I at this point IMHO. Please prove me wrong. West is solid, through and through.
I agree with him about the top 4 teams. It will be very difficult for us to beat any of them in a 7 game series. We may see another first round exit this year. If that is the case, JVG has to go and we need to go into other direction.
I can just imagine JVG if Houston were to win the championship. Random Joe: Jeff, how does it feel to win the championship? Jeff: Well, we certainly don't deserve this championship. In fact lets all put our heads down in shame
We aren't a top 4 top. How is stating the obvious an excuse? We are just below that. We beat Dallas at the beginning of the season when they were playing poorly, and we have lost against the Jazz, Pistons, Spurs, and Suns. Until we start beating the top teams half the time or more, we aren't a top team. We don't execute in the forth quarter against playoff caliber defense.
