He may not have the all-around scoring repertoire that a Jordan or Kobe Bryant has, but then again he scarcely needs it. He gets wherever he needs to on the court, seemingly at will. Now that his teammates are starting to play offense at a higher level, his passing ability is shining more than ever.

And now, we have JVG hyping up LeBron as perhaps the game's best defender in tonight's ESPN telecast. Am I overselling it by saying he's a hybrid combination of Dr. J, Magic, and Scottie Pippen? Should we doubt anymore that LeBron is the best player in the league?

I remember thinking it was preposterous when they broadcasted one of his high school games on national television.

Then after 2 or 3 minutes of watching that, I realized he was making some Magic-like passes.

Dude is scary, any way you slice it.

I don't know about DPOY but LeBron is far and away the best player in the NBA right now. He's clearly taking defense very seriously this season. I think the Olympic team experience is carrying over.

No we should not. He's posting Jordan-at-his-peak PER's this season.

I'm no Cavs fan but I have always liked him. It's great to see him progressing and playing on both ends of the court.

He will have to do a great job in an NBA Finals to be the best player in the league but I will admit he is getting scary and that is good for the league.

If his jumpshot keeps improving, there's not much stopping him from becoming the best player ever. I think of him like a mix of Magic, Karl Malone, and Shawn Kemp.

    Shawn Kemp??

I'm still waiting for him to be creative with his dunking ability (or can he?). His one-handed tomahawk jams are getting booooring. I'm tired of seeing his weak dunks on ESPN. Also, his blowing the powder in the air is stale, didn't he copy that from KG??

I agree hes on a whole other level, but LeBron needs to do something out of the ordinary to be legendary. As of now, his signature moves are xerox copies.

"Creative" dunks are overrated. Those are for dunk contests and rookie games.

LeBron is the most spectacular in-game dunker in the game today. I never understood how people can think his dunks are boring.

I compared him to Kemp because both of them are known for throwing down extremely powerful in-game dunks. I can't think of anyone else that dunks that hard that isn't a post player.

Uh your being sarcastic right?? How is his dunks the most spectacular? Yea he may drives it in hard to the rack but he dunks it with one hand, nothing new or awesome about that. Spectacular is Vince Carter doing 360s/windmills that go around his entire body in-game. When you think of MJ's dunk you think of that signature dunk where he would windmill/cuff the ball and slam it. Even Kobe does some crazy dunks every now and then.

The other night on ESPN I saw LeBron try to be creative but instead he did a Karl Malone dunk by holding his head while doing his tomahawk, I was like wtf... that was lame, yet ESPN slow-moed the dunk like it was the first time in NBA history someone has done it. He should hire someone to help with his creativeness while on the court.

It's one thing to try and be creative its another when he just doesn't seem to have the ability to do a different type of dunk. It's like something is holding him back perhaps its his small hands?? Now that I think about it, maybe thats why he lost that to that one scrub in horse, he just can't do anything creative.

They're not boring. His dunks are insane. I mean yeah he never switches it up much but still. The guy dunks over everything and everyone in his path.

Kob'es a pretty good dunker too, even in his old age. ;)

LeBron has a long way to go before being put in legendary status, though. If he learns to play the midrange game when his athleticism dies off (if it does...he might not be human) then he has a shot at the top echelon. If not, he will always be one below the best, or the greats.

I think he has MVP locked up this season though. Which is crazy. He's still so young.

James plays too much free safety (like young MJ did), he doesn't shut anyone down. But... if you go by what the voters typically look at (I mean Camby won the damn thing and came in 2nd last year) then yes. Lebron is a candidate.

Lebron plays impact defense. Block shots, steals, momentum changing defensive plays, etc...

Lebron has been the best player in the NBA for a few seasons now. All you had to do was watch him in the ECF a few years ago against the Pistons.

You can't even appreciate the distance he covers, the elevation he gets, or his strength in the air?

When I think of MJ's dunking, that "signature dunk" where he windmilled/cuffed the ball is not what I think of. That was a boring dunk. I think of him dunking on the Knicks. I think of him dunking on Tree Rollins. I think of him going full court and dunking from just inside the free throw line. I think of dunks where he plowed through the defense, elevated over everybody on the court, and dunked it hard. That, to me, is breathtaking, spectacular athleticism. That's what you get with LeBron's dunks.

When I think of a great Kobe dunk, I'm not thinking about his reverse dunks or his 360. I'm thinking of him taking it to the defense, leaping from the dotting line, and throwing it down. Same with Dr. J, and same with MJ. All the other contortions and theatrics don't do much for me.

Its obvious that you have different standards when it comes to dunk creativity and spectacular..ness. I have to agree though with the poster who said that those one hand power jams aren't that appealing. Give me a VC windmill or 360 over LeBron's dunks any day. That's not to say that ManChild's dunks aren't of the crazy replay that ****e variety. I just think that there are better dunkers out there.

Lebron is simply a beast. A freak of nature. The definition of athletic. I mean he is freaking huge. 6'9" tall, 250 pounds, who is the among the quickest and fastest players in the whole league?

He is like a frieght train on the open court. The only other player that I've heard with the freight train describtion was Charles Barkely. But Lebron is 5 inches taller than him and has the overall game.

 Scary. He is the most athletic athlete in the world.

One of the (Sixers?) announcers said this week during a Cavs game that LeBron now weighs 275 lbs. He could probably be the best pass rushing DE in the NFL. Just imagine his explosion; no offensive tackle would have any hope of staying in front of him.

He is incredibly fast for someone his size. He routinely closes gaps of 25 ft. to block shots at the rim on break away layups. Wish we could get him in 2010, that's one guy that has an impact on his team, take that team he has surronding him and without him they are the Milwaukee Bucks. The Knicks think they have a chance to get him but his desire to win is so great he won't go to a rebuilding situation, I think he may stay in Cleveland.
