Jeff Van Gundy has done a marvelous job in completely turning the Rockets into a defense-oriented team. Their defense has kept them in many games, such as game 1 of the series and throughout the regular season.

However, his offensive plan is simply lacking. He tries to limit the players and his more structured offense hurts our players so much. He needs to let Steve Francis be Steve Francis. I've seen Francis hesitate and take outside shots so much more this season than past seasons. Francis is best when he attacks. JVG should have called more pick and rolls for Francis/Cato.

Jeff Van Grumpy is intractable, inflexible, and generally little more than an average head coach. He may improve the Rockets in future seasons, but it will be at the expense of watchable basketball.
