I caught it. Kinda short. Only thing new I got out of it was JVG may not mind having Mike James back. Matt asked him directly and JVG's answer was criptic because of NBA rules but the implication was clearly communicated. Any more interviews with CD, JVG or Dennis Lindsey are worthless because they have said what they are going to say. In fact when asked about specific players in the draft, JVG said the Rockets told him to not be so forthcoming with his answers.
It was on 610 with Matt Jackson. He talked about the Heat and the championship, then moved on to the draft and Mike James. Brewer - he talked about how he is as good as advertised. he talked about the bad arms, but said even with the bad arms, he managed to shoot 34%. Redick - didn't hear the first part, but he said there was no way you could discount what a great shooter he is, and how he led his team to greatness. He said not to forget about randy Foye. Talked about how Roy is coming in tommorow. Talked about how he needs both shooting and driving and finishing. He said it would be nice to have multiple PGs on the floor and multiple guys with size and athletecism like McGrady on the floor at the same time. He coudn't comment about Mike James in particular, but he said that he thought Mike played very well last year, and that adding scoring punch, quickness and tenacity would be good. He said we probably need 2 starters, and would like to get a starter with the #8. he also talked about Sura, he really likes what Sura brings, but he isn't sure if he will be able to play, he didn't sound too optimistic. He sounded good on Brewer but considering how heavily the Rockets are trying to trade up, it seems as though Brandon Roy is the guy they're after, which makes me pretty happy. James Roy McGrady Swift Yao Nice lineup.
If I could upgrade the Rockets, I'd upgrade the PF and the SG!! Raefer didn't shoot well, but he did pass the ball better than most of his predecessors. And he doens't turn the ball over. Having McGrady and Yao healthy should change a lot of peoples opinion about Raefer. But, it will be something to watch how this team improves itself.
JVG doesn't mind having mike james back. mike james wants to come back... looks good. #8 and Jho for #4 and miles? (discussed in another thead, but reates to moving up and drafting Roy). we get a higher pick and a talent upgrade, all for giving them a better contract? pretty fair, but we might have to throw in a future second rounder. yao-deke miles-stro-hayes tmac-novak-bowen roy-head-sura MJ-rafer super fast and athletic. every starter can create thier own shot. this is a contending team. dallas who? bring on miami.
He's looking to get a starter with the #8. Hmm... so who can we draft at that spot that would be a starter? Of course you could always trade the #8 for a starter.
He also said you have to examine both the potential of a player AND their downside (as in how likely the player will at the least be a rotation player vs. a bust). In that scenario, one could argue Redick's downside is limited since he should at least be an effective 3pt gun off the bench.
True. Please understand I am NOT in favor of drafting Redick. Just trying to illustrate JVG's point. I probably should have used Roy, who is thought to have the highest "downside" of the top picks. Most everyone thinks, at the least, he will be a long term NBA starter.
J.J. is going to have a great career, but Houston is going to be winning multiple championships because we traded #8 and Juwan for #4 and Miles.
sounds like jvg's draft board looks like this. roy redick brewer carney i wish he would bump redick to the bottom of the list.
Sure they are gosh you idiot so anytime we says something nice about a player we are taking them damn hes not even in calling the drafting shots and if you look at what CD said we are taking brewer but neither of those things matter right now because it looks like we are movin on up!
