Saw this short interview of JVG from sina.com at today's game at Toyota Centre.

Did you guys think he made a mistake then?

Maybe Hilltopper can post the video? It's save anything lost in translation.

Good pics. JVG does well with makeup...
1st- trading Francis with the growth of Yao in mind makes a lot of sense. Francis did not mesh with Yao's game the way McGrady does. But at the time I am not sure it made much sense bringing in a scoring champion with Yao's growth in mind..... Hmm

2nd- "I traded away..."- Ya right. I doubt Van Gundy held that kind of clout. It was an organizational move. Its a given JVG played a role in it. But the trade would have gone down regardless.

    3rd- Once again.. Thanks pryuen

I hated Gundy in New York, but my respect for him grew so much after he joined the Rockets and I got to see his real personality.

Great sense of humor, great coach, and just a great person. Hope he succeeds and coaches again. I think he was a great coach for Yao Ming and really helped Yao's mental game.

Will those bags under his eyes ever go away?? He was a good coach, but a really boring one (game style). I was glad that he was gone, but thus far, 9 games into the season, Adelman's style hasn't looked any better. His D sucks and so does his O.

I love JVG as a commentator tho.

So you wanted Francis, Cato, and Mobley over McGrady? I'd say despite the lack of playoff success the Rockets are better off. Two of the three players are bench fodder that aren't even second or third options right now. Is Cato even in the league anymore? Mobley is still the only servicable guard up to this point.

I think JVG had about as much say in personnel as RA had in picking up Brooks. Maybe about as much to share the type of player they're looking for but not all out GM control.

The Rockets didn't trade SF away to help Yao's development. They did it because Tracy was forcing Orlando to make a move and he specifically requested Houston. Plus, Orlando's idiotic GM took Steve and (expiring contract) Cat in return. If JVG acted like he was responsible for that trade he was lying.

I guess I was a JVG nuthugger but I never said he had nothing to do with personnel moves. I think JVG did whatever was in the best interest for the team. He was a good man. Sucks what happened, but I think we're moving in the right direction.

It takes 2 to tango. Even if McGrady demanded to be traded to Houston, if Houston did not agree, the trade would not have taken place.

Look at what happened to Kobe now. He also wanted to be traded away. But no other team can afford to trade away multiple players to get him to be immediately put into a rebuilding mode.

So you could not unilaterally conclude that JVG lied.

Chances are things were lost in translation twice from english to chinese to english again or simply the author took liberties

The interview is with Sina, so Van Gundy is answering every question in terms of Yao and Yao's benefit. I don't think he would have otherwise explained trading Francis as a move to help Yao. Nor does his attempt at doing so make sense. It was a move to help the team.

Some of the statements in the above article seem like they'd rock the boat and it just seems unusual he's all of a sudden taking responsibility for a trade when he's always distanced himself from that.

come on,you can force your on FO but not the other team's management, the Rockets must first had the mentality that they want Steve out.
