He does have lots of ideas to improve things in the league and he knows how to deal with the media. Plus, then he can hand over the reigns to Shane when the time comes for him to hang up his shoes.
No good. He would alienate the casual fan and the international market in favor of making the game better. Simply put, he has played/coached the game and loves it. He is the anti-Stern and I will forever respect the man for that. Then again, if he was lucky enough to have MJ come along and Nike pull off the most brilliant advertising campaign in history then he could be every bit as successful as Stern.
I can't tell if you're saying it's a good thing or a bad thing but the less casual fans the NBA has, the better for the game (and worse for the business). I am pro game.
I love JVG, he'd make the game better for sure!! Most you guys say that he is not media friendly, but look at him on espn. Dude is my favorite commentator! He's so damn funny! Cleaning up the game is what people would want, well at least for me anyways. I really can't speak w/ for the rest of the world. I think more people are turned off by the cheating and controversial issues going on w/ professional sports.
In the end, basketball is nothing BUT a business. It's not, nor ever has been , about the GAME itself. It's about the product that's put out on the court....that's the ONLY reason the Rockets exist. If you don't believe me, go ask Les Alexander if he would be willing to take out some seats on the floor level so T-Mac can have better depth perception. In fact, the MORE casual fans the NBA has, the BETTER it is for you, because then you can watch your favorite teams on regular channels in HD. Hockey alienated the casual fan, and now look what happened to them.....they're stuck playing games on Versus. As much as I hate Stern (and I REALLLLLY hate him....I think him and Bud Selig can go straight to hell), it's not a coincidence that the game has enjoyed its most prosperous time under his regime. He's a genius from a business standpoint....he knows where the butter for his bread comes from.
