I'm getting sick and tired of hearing he needs JVG-Type Players to win

    If I had a million dollar product . . I would be a millionaire
    Strange how that works

    more and more

GREAT COACHES can coach mediocre players

so far this is what we have with JVG

JVG kind seems like he wants a set table . . . .
He does not seem interested in building .. . teaching . .. growing a team

    all he asks for is
Players who already play like he like
Players who will follow his every command
Players who will not 'think too much on the court' just run the play he called

    I'm frustrated with JVG

The Win-Now thing puts VG firmly in a box. You (RR) are in a win-win situation...2nd round of playoffs or 1 more year of Van Gundy with the clock running now...as in "Win-now". ;)

    Gater,

We finally agree, I think that JVG is in an Isaiah situation, this is his ONLY chance.

Exactly. I'm tired of having to find "JVG-Type" players for the team. This past trade is an exact example of trading away talent just for a player who plays how JVG likes them to.

How many teams in the league would have brought Marc Jackson, Charles Oakley, and Rod Strickland out of retirement?

I'm fine w/ the win-now attitude, but I'm not willing to deal all of our good, young talent in order to do so and I don't think we have to.

JVG-Type players should not exist, they only type of players that should play for us are "Rockets players"! Playing with their heart and beeing proud, wearing that Rockets uniform! And we all know defensive is important in the NBA, but so is the offense. JVG is too defensive minded, that 's my opinion.
CD, I hope you will make the right discisions this summer and sign "huge" players that would be proud wearing a Rockets uniform!

JVG is a great coach and the best one for us available. He just wants smart players. If you do dumb stuff you are going to sit with him.

If you want to build a team or develop players JVG is the worst coach in the NBA. I feel Yao Ming would be even better if he didn't have to play in Gundy's rigid system. If JVG could clone Bowen he'd be starting all five positions and Yao and T-Mac would be trade bait. I'm ready to give another coach a chance before Yao and T-Mac retire.

JVG is a good coach, not a great coach. And I understand that he wants smart players, I'm sure all coaches do. But other coaches can help players develop and make them smarter. They're not going to learn much by sitting on the bench everytime they make a mistake.

Exactly. If being a yes player, like Rocket River suggested in another thread, means having a high basketball IQ, not milking injuries, following basic basketball instructions (give the ball to yao, double team when Wesley is being posted up by Carmelo Anthony in a crucial part of the game, etc...), and acting like you care on the court then I totally agree with JVG. No more no players.

    Win-now attitude?

I thought that would be the goal of every team that considers themselves to be in the top 3-4 teams in the NBA. I dont see the WIN-NOW mentality from the owner- We always seem to settle for 2 or 3 rd best option- instead of going for it.

    Talk is very cheap!

It took us long enough. :)

This may be hard-core to some, but I'm so calloused right now that I don't care what next seasons' injury count is. From this point forward until the end of the WC 2nd round, all guilty fingers point squarely and firmly at VG.

100% agree with you guys . . . DD, GATER, et al.

Being sick of it and wanting it too stop have set up the current situation. Less can't be sitting at home excited about all of this. He can't be happy that Stro was a bust. That we traded away a potential stud. If Jeff's excuses center on the players at his disposal, then Less/CD must have finally decided to let the guy hang himself. Give him 100% control of the players coming in this off season.

Can anyone explain the completely demoralized interview with CD after the trade? That is not an interview of a GM that has thought about this trade and pulled the trigger because he thinks it is the right thing to do. If this is a decision from ownership, then I applaud it.

Jeff, get the players that you want, and let us see what happens. I'm tired of watching you get pissed at players and exiling them to the bench. If you want certain players, get them, play them. If we still suck . . . i'll be the first one to shake your hand on your way out the door.

CD's on the way out anway, he has nothing to lose.

Couldn't agree more. Not only do we have mediocre players starting next to Yao and Tmac, we have zero(quality) depth. And just the MLE to use.

    Dig it.

Just after the terrible trade, JVG states that he would have played 19yrs old Gay. I say this is a lie and a cover, so that we don't think it was him that CAUSED the trade to happen I feel sure that if he doesn't play our younger players this season he will be out the door. :p

I couldn't agree more. I am a long long time Rockets fan, and I am "seriously" considering checking out for good. It is just sports, but several decades of thick and mostly thin is hard to walk away from, BUT this last idiotic move was the last straw. I bet there are more fans like me than Les thinks. If I were owner of this team I would totally clean house at the management level. Until we get a more intelligent management team including a new coach, this team is doomed to mediocrity. And yes, I believe Ming would have developed faster under another coach. I haven't quit yet, but I am closer than I have ever been. This is my last post for awhile until I make my decision. I really enjoy you guys and this board as a whole. If I don't come back, it has been great communicating with other fans.

Re JVG But we have been watching him do this for two years already, don't you think the ownert [Les] would have noticed this by now!!

Riley has a similar coaching philosophy as JVG and just won the championship with dumb players like Walker and Williams starting. JVG should be able to compromise and win with whatever players are before him.

I followed several rules for many years on this board, and one of them was not to call names. It is time to violate it. You are a JackASS! And what's worse you are probably twelve or under. Poor thing. And on to the ignore list you go.
