Anyone else hear about this on Sportscenter?
Leattner, Bradley and Alexander to DC for Howard.
It would make sense for Dallas cause money is never an issue for Cuban.

From briefly looking around message boards on the 'Net, it appears to be true. Man, Dallas just got better. Forget the money Howard is making. He's another offensive weapon and having a good year, to boot.

Still haven't gotten a verifiable source for this, though...

Nope Ekezie I guess. Because Cuban shipped out the 2 first round picks of this year.

    Etan Thomas and Courtney Alexander.

I wonder if Loy Vaught is going to start playing well again?

What's with the Billionaire owners just signing up as many players as they can regardless of position? I didn't see Portland win it all last year (and it doesn't look like the will this year either) - what makes them think this is a sound strategy??

This trade is interesting. Because Christian Laettner is in the last year of his contract while Juwan Howard still has a couple more years, Dallas used up approximately $8 million of their cap space next year. If my numbers are right, Dallas' team salary will be $43,443,565. Not enough to sign Webber. According to RealGM, they will get a small trade exception, but unless they want to trade Juwan Howard (and Sacramento will actually take him), I'd say they're out of the running in the Webber race. The only other thing they could do is maybe put Shawn Bradley in a double sign-and-trade to Sacramento, but I don't see the Kings going for that when they have Divac.

In terms of right now, which is why Mark Cuban made the trade as far as I can see, since he gave up his 1st rounders, the Mavericks gain a legitimate scorer and a good rebounder in Howard, at the expense of outside shooting in Davis. Laettner may not have been contributing much, but he was shooting well, 51%.

I really don't know how to feel about this. If Courtney Alexander becomes as good as everyone thought, it may prove bad in the long run, but we'll have to see.

Great deal by the Mavs! Juwan Howard is a good player, who was stuck on a bad team. He still put up great numbers. Dallas is the perfect place for him. And Washington dumped his contract while picking up different players to shake up the chemistry. Howard should be happy and play even better!

Howard is a good player, but overpaid. As a second or third player on the team he is very valuable. He just isn't the leader. Good trade all the way around. Laettner is still very effective. He's just passive.

OK, nobody got the deal right...

Dallas also sent 3 million in cash to the Wizards in the trade. Here is a link to the story:

    http://www.nba.com/news/howard_trade_010222.html?nav=ArticleList

Jordan also "hinted" that Laettner will be gone after he becomes a free agent this summer. He said it was the "only way" they could get the deal done though.

It also states that Etan Thomas and Alexander may be the only players that last in Wash. in the future.

MJ would have loved to have Bradly for the cap space he would provide next year but Cuban and Nellie really like this guy. They did not want to part with him and they intend to resign him in the summer.
