The Mavericks are trying to acquire Karla Malone from Utah. The Jazz rejected Juwan Howard and draft picks for Malone. Could this turn into a 3-team trade? Could Houston step in and pick up Howard? The Denver Nuggets have been mentioned, with Lafrentz going to Utah, Juwan landing in Denver and Malone in Dallas.

What would you be willing to part with to acquire Juwan Howard? Or rather what would Utah want from our roster?

    1st round pick? Cato? Griffin?

Also mentioned in the article is that Bison Dele is looking to return to the NBA. Would he be better than Cato?

At this point who wouldn't be

    Here is the article:

for Howard? Anything outside of Francis, Mobes, Griff. Throw in some picks to sweeten the deal.

for Dele? Not much, but if he loves the Rocks so much he'd sign for the minimum, I wouldn't mind. Somehow I doubt that will happen :)

Actually, I'm more interested in the tidbit about the Clippers looking to move Magette, Miles, or Odom.

The funny thing is, :) even though there are 4-5 SFs on the team, LONG-TERM the Rocks could still use another young, athletic, versatile SG\SF:

Rice - may be retired in 3 years

Langhi - will probably be playing elsewhere (Europe?) next year

    Williams - I don't think he's a lock to be re-signed next year

Morris - the only potential long-term SF on the roster...maybe

    Torres - who knows?

I don't know if the Rocks have any packages that the Clips, or anyone else, find attractive but anything's possible.

We can't afford Juwan Howard's contract. He is one of the highest payed players in the league at something like 18 or 19 million. With Mo-T's contract, Francis' MAX contract, and Cato's contract, I don't think we can have him. Cato would work in Denver if they were trading LaFrentz though. But I doubt they would.

Bison Dele? No, he's bad news. He split on his team and took off to New Dehli to sport a turban, i think. Anyways his bafoon of agent Manley says teams Gm's who turned their cheek on his poor mistreated client -- Olden Polynice -- will not get a chance in hell to nab Bison Dele. Man I say to hell with that agent and his two nutty clients.

Juwan Howard? Two words: MO TAYLOR.

Hell I'd rather call up Zerge Zwiker up from the Dutchleagues than pick up those two guys.

Williams is pretty much the only guy of value that we'd be willing to trade to another team. Well, maybe Moochie, but he's needed real bad now that Francis is out for awhile.

Cool, maybe between the two of them they could average the rebounds of a normal Power Forward

Smeg, you place way too much importance on individual rebounding. Our team rebounding is above average. Maurice Taylors offensive shot being money form anywhere on the court surely makes up for a couple of measly rebounds. Would you rather have an Oakley, Outlaw, Scott WIlliams over a Mo Taylor just cause they get a few more rebounds? Smeg, no disrespect but thats absurd!

Uh oh... I see a swing in the "I hate him/I like him" wars. For a brief period this season it was Cato, then Moochie... now back to Mo Tay?

... and the guy's not even playing!

Guess I'll get out my flame r****dant.

I'd consider Glen Rice (and change) for Howard. Howard makes a ton of money, but it's all over after next season.

I think there are some differences between MoT (and KT) and Juwan. I think Juwan plays some 3 when on the floor with Nowitski & Bradley. Plus I think Juwan may actually have a postup game and....(da-DAH) good hands.

    Next season:

    5) Cato/Willis/Collier/EG
    4) MoT/Howard/EG
    3) Howard/EG/TMo
    2) Cat/Torres
    1) Steve/Mooch

(I think KT would probably be part of any deal for Juwan). :(

there is one reason our team rebounding numbers are above average Steve and Mobes, which only results in two things, they get the crap beaten out of them having to bang with opposign centres and forwards and our fastbreaks are severly hampered as our gurds are always in the defensive keyway helping to rebound.

Hell yesh I would love an Outlaw and Oakley and even a Scott Williams (although some other options who aren't so ancient would have been nice, ie Ben Wallace, Danny Fortson), at least then we would have a Power Forward as opposed to a Shooting guard in a Power Forwards body.

    Smeg

PS What's to say Mo's offensive game, which suited us last year when we had at least one inside target in Dream, 1 - doesn't suit anymore no we don't have that interior target, 2- isn't long term hampered by his injury?

Smeg, many of Francis and Cuttinos rebounds are long boards or rebounds that they pluck from the mid-range area. Rarely do they sit underneath the basket and bang underneath. You say Francis and Mobleys rebounding halts or hampers fast breaking oppurtunities, but i say look at Kidd, Payton, Magic, Oscar Roberston, Drexler and guys like that who were/are fabulous fastbreaking guards, mainly because of that extra ability to rebound. Anyways, Francis was rebounding even when Barkley was around. It's just a natural trait that suits his style of play. No big brusing rebounder is going to change this. Hell, look at Kevin Willis he's one of the best per min rebounders this year yet Francis and Mobes still get their full share.

Smeg, I don't think you realize how important MO was and is to this team. Look at this years 1st quarter stats. I think rudy said we've been outscored every first quarter except two, all year! With Mo Taylor this would of never been allowed to happen. Mo Taylor was as good as gold during the first quarters last year. For some reason Mo Taylor took about 70% of his shots during the first quarters last year. When Mo hit his shots in the first -- which was more often than nought -- we'd usually come out on top. Maurice Taylor was and is invaluable to this team and hes the main reason we're playing catchup throughout most of the games.

Wrong...Steve and Mobes constantly get boards while in the paint. I have to agree that this slows down our ability to fast break.

Remember the days when the guards released after a missed shot and Otis Thorp launched 80+ foot bombs. That's impossible if your guards are looking for rebounds.

I'm not necessarily complaining cause at least somebody is pulling down boards. But it would be nice if the guards didn't have to...but we don't have that luxery right now.

yeah, maybe what...once a game. So we need to bring in a rebounder so he can outlet and 80ft bomb once every blue moon?

The fact is is when a guard rebounds the ball it gives him a better and quicker opportunity to fast break. The problem is is the whole team needs to be commited to running for it to work and for some reason Rudy has not made this an important part of the game plan or he has and they're not listening.

Remind me again which option gets the ball up the floor quicker

    1. Forward rebounds and outlets to guard outside 3 pt line heading torwards half way line

    or

    2. Guard rebounds under keyway and dribbles all the way down the floor.

    You missed the point...

Point is, if a big man rebounds and outlets, you have a better fast break than a guard pulling it down and dribbling.

The dribble isn't bad if you get some other guys out on the break but that doesn't seem to happen either.

Smeg, maybe quicker wasn't the right word.

You know to me having a Big man rebound the ball and quickly outlet it for a fastbreak is quicker but it's not as convenient for the point guard as getting the rebound himself and then pushing the ball. I say this for a reason. 1) When this usually he's rarely has the numbers on his side, he either has to wait for his teamates -- which by then his momentum is stopped and it halts the fast break in a way -- or he has to take straight to the hole by himself against a defense that has the numbers usually because of their habitual getting back. 2) outlet passes you guys make sound so simple. Watch the games its very difficult for a big man to outlet the ball near mid-court to a streaking guard. This is not a common thing. Usually the guard comes back to get the ball. These aren't highschool players and coaches here. They're not going to allow you to outlet the ball as you wish and run as you wish. Theres cosntant pressure being applied out there. Long outlet passes are rare, very rare.

Now with the above being said, you see why i feel having a guard rebound the ball makes the transition game start off much more smoothly. heres a couple of reasons. 1) the ball is in his control form the outset. Theres no waiting for sketchy outlet pass that are in serious jeaporday of being picked 2)His teamates are running in flow with him nearer the beginning point of his starting the fast break therefore giving him many more options instead of recieving a long outlet -- which never works anyways -- usually creating him a 1 0n 3 fastbreak.3) Overall the transitory motion is much more smoother during fastbreaks when the point guard rebounds the ball, imo.

The next few games im going to pay extra attention to the Rockets and the opponets fast break points. Im going to watch for outlets,1) how long they are 2) how succesful the outlet is 3) and how many end up in fastbreaks.

Rocket, in theory you make sound arguments. In practice it doesn't translate into points. When Steve gets a board and goes down court, he NEVER has an open shot. I agree that it reduces turn overs but it doens't put any pressure on the defense either. I'm only speaking from what I've seen on this team.

If the guard grabs the board, you can all but forget a fast break unless there is a defensive breakdown.

krosfyah, for this team maybe the rebounding guard is a worthless luxury for the reason that they don't utilize the fast break off the rebound. But to say is its only good in theory is not true. Isiah, Magic, Drexler, these guys always started fastbreaks after rebounding the ball. Jason Kidd is a pro at this. Watch a good deal of his fast breaks, they begin with his rebounding the ball. It can be much more effective than the dangerous and rare outlet. It can be done, and done much more consistently than any other way.

Wow, our team rebounding is above average?

Not too many "above average" rebounding teams who need their PG to pull down 7-8 boards a game.

Above average rebounding teams have big men who can rebound, thus allowing their PG to run the break.
