So, I am attending the Austin game developer conference and started drinking wine about 3:30pm....I had about 5 glasses and a capacino with a B-52 shot then went to a buddies hotel room and had a jack and coke. I got pulled over for doing 47 in a 35 mph zone....the officer gave me the LONGEST follow the light with your eyes test EVER, and then had me take 9 steps with one foot in front of the other with my hands at my sides and then turn around and do it back the other way. I was a PILLAR of concentration and worked my way through the test, knowing that my blood alcohol was probably just above the legal limit. I passed the test and the cop gave me only a WARNING......HOLY CRAP.... I must be living right.... A collective WHEW as I pour my happy self into the bed tonight. Chalk one up for the good guys !!! DD
i believe it was the micronesians who idolize drunk drivers, ever since the days of the polynesian overloads. so to answer your question, yes.
wow, you got so lucky. Trust me. Drinking and Driving is no joke in Texas. Be Thankful. And don't do it again.
Going to meetings is a different experience. Hopefully you can take your experience as if something really did happen. After all, you weren't skillful enough to see the cop before he pulled you over....
"Oh dear Officer, I believe I had a few too many Pinot Grigios and now I feel a bit flushed!" Luckily for you, you were drinking wine which gives one of the cleanest and most coherent 'drunk' of most spirits available. Seriously though, who drives drunk and speeds? I've driven after having a few beers before and I always stick to the speed limit religiously. You get 1 point for passing the field test, but lose 50 for speeding and putting yourself in that position. To other people planning on trying DUI, simply follow all traffic laws and maintain your vehicle (plates, registration, lights), and your chances of getting pulled over are almost zero.
Congratulations. Just because you've had a few drinks doesn't mean you can't drive. If you passed the field sobriety test, you were fine to drive even if your BAC was over the limit. I absolutely HATE cops. I know there are some good ones out there, I've just never encountered one. So I agree with DaDakota, us= Good Guys them= Bad Guys.
LOL - I had stopped drinking about 2 hours before I left, but was probably right at the legal limit, or just under it. Either way, it was a harrowing experience. Now that the legal limit is .08 you can be over it if you have more than 1 and 1/2 drinks in 2 hours......well I had SEVEN drinks but spread over 9+ hours and nothing in the last 2.....and had eaten dinner while we drank the wine. So, I was pretty confident driving wise, but not totally confident blood test wise. I guarantee I was not drunk, but you never know if you get some one who just wants to up their DWI count. I got lucky.....no doubt......but I would have never blown if I got taken in.....the video tape would have shown a pretty sober person......but it was still scary. And Invisible, I did see the cop, but I thought the speed limit in that area was 45mph.....I am still pretty sure it is.......but he said it was 35mph, and I was not going to argue....but I am going to check today when I hit the conference again. DD PS. The conference is pretty lame so far, but it just opened up. Hopefully today it will be better, and I am going to a party after the show tonight....but may decide to pass drinking all together as a show of respect to the gods !
This is crap. My wife and I were at a party one time with my older brother and other people. She was almost totally wasted. Had been drinking most of the night. My older brother, who is a Texas state trooper, for fun decided to give her a field sobriety test. She freaking passed it, but I guarantee you there was no way in hell I was giving her the keys to drive home. Those field sobriety tests are not so telling that a drunk person can't manage to pass them once in a while.
Not everyone was so lucky last night. Police: Paris Hilton arrested for DUI in Hollywood http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4169216.html By JEREMIAH MARQUEZ Associated Press LOS ANGELES -- Paris Hilton was arrested early today for investigation of driving under the influence, police said. Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. after being pulled over in Hollywood, said police Officer I. Isabella, who declined to give his first name. Click to learn more... Police stopped Hilton because she was "driving erraticly,'' he said. "The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence,'' Isabella said, reading a police statement. Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and released, he said. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent. "She's absolutely fine,'' Mintz said. "She didn't appear in the least bit to be intoxicated.'' At the time of her arrest, Hilton was driving home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from a charity event where she had one drink, a margarita, he said. She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, "Paris.'' The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued,'' Mintz said. She was picked up from the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood station by her sister, Nicky, Nicky's boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly, and Mintz. In June, Hilton had a fender-bender accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage after a shopping trip.
