Man, it's like waking up before everyone else on Christmas morning!!! I've been humming and whistling the CBS/NCAA song all morning long. My absolute favorite day of the year is about to start.
Have any of you ever been to any tourney games at all??? My father is a sports fan too, and I've always enjoyed going to games with him. When I was a little boy he used to take me to the high school basketball tourney up in Austin...it was sort of a guys'/father-son weekend together. One year of college my father called and said he had tickets to all the games in Austin that year...it was the first and second round games that determined who goes on to Sweet 16. We saw Arkansas and TSU play...then Syracuse and Purdue and Memphis and Wisc-Green Bay, and some other teams I can't recall right now. I had no rooting interest (except against Arkansas at all times!!) and had a blast. We went to the games on Thursday...Friday we had off so we hung out at the Arboretum...watched the games from around the country in the Omni hotel bar with Gene Keady (spelling?) and the players from Purdue. We went to a movie and watched Jordan make his comeback to the NBA. Then on Saturday we went to the next games...and finally went to the final game on Sunday (between Arkansas and Syracuse)...it was a great weekend. I can't wait to take my son someday...I'm sure we'll have some of those games here in Houston with the new arena...but it's kinda nice to just go on a trip with Dad for the weekend to watch basketball.. wow..this whole thing got a lot sappier than I intended when I started writing!! turned out to be more about my dad than about basketball...oh, well..they go hand in hand!
That's funny MadMax...that was my senior year of high school, and I was in Austin for the first time since I was a little tyke. My girlfriend at the time wanted to take me around to all the cool Austin places, but I was hellbent on going to those games. Of course, I didn't when a scalper wanted $160. I don't think I'll ever go to a first round event. I love watching all the games way too much.
It really was cool, RM95...sooo much basketball going on all at once!! and there were people all around with little Watchman TV's tuning into the other games.
2 minutes until KENTUCKY VS BRYCE DREW UNIVERSITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! On a sad note I wanted to see what happened on As The World Turns
Yeah, I'd definitely take one if I went. BTW, I haven't forgot about your CD...I'm off to Cali tomorrow, but I'll burn it and mail it as soon as I get back on Tuesday.
no big deal...which CD was it again??? the copy of the Woodlands performance??? do you have the music that was on the never-released album that was supposed to be "everyday??"
As good as the NCAA tourney is, my favorite sports day is the first day of the NBA Playoffs even if the Rockets are not in it. Unlike the NCAA's, the games are shown where you get to see every one. And since 2000 I believe, each NBA playoff game has had it's own time slot (with the exception of a couple) which is why the first round of the NBA playoffs has lasted two weeks the last couple of years. RM95, have fun in Cailfornia, what are you going there for anyway?
wow!! you are a fan!! if the rockets aren't in, i could care less about the NBA playoffs. I think I watched 2 whole games of the NBA Finals combined last year. It didn't used to always be that way...I used to love to watch other teams play....but: 1. I'm much busier now than I was then, and 2. I don't find the NBA, as a whole, to be all that compelling anymore. Back when Isiah Thomas was floating around on a broken leg and players were murdering each other out there, I knew they really cared....now I don't get that sense so much.
I set a new world record today. After three games, my bracket is swiftly becomingcompletely messed up. I will now owe my best work buddy sushi and sake at Kubo, and we aren't even out of the first day, let alone the first round!
If Florida Atlantic wins I'm gonna cry. I also had Marquette over Tulsa. Tulsa is up in the 2nd half. No not really but I think I had Bama in the Sweet 16.
My birthday isn't 'til January. I could see how you would be antsy to get it started though. If it makes you feel good to pretend that today is my birthday, go right ahead. Tex and Smokey, I know what you mean. I had Okie State winning two games! Also had Pepperdine winning not one, but two games! Also had Marquette....looks like they're making it close.
is a colon really necessary in that sentence??? where are the quotation marks over "i could not care less??" you're right...i don't know what I say it and write it like that...i think i just cut out the "not" and pass the savings on to you
Have to go with Max on this one: "I could care less about the NBA playoffs" would be similar to "I could not care about the NBA playoffs." Using less AND not doesn't make any sense, but hell, I got a f*cking degree in Math and Max is a lawyer, so what do we know, right? We need chievous to come in here and give us the definitive answer. TheFreak, Smokey, etc. : I'm getting killed myself. I had Marquette making the Sweet 16 and both Pepperdine and Miami winning 1 game. Fortunately, I picked Kent to beat the erratic Cowboys, but my picks aren't going good. That should make one poster here happy...hehe.
Well.... "I could not care less" leads me to belive that he cares zero about the NBA playoffs, since zero in the least that anybody could do anything, unless you were on Jeopardy and had $-5000 bucks... "I could care less", even though technically different, could be construed as being the same thing, since he could care only .000000001 about the NBA playoffs, which means that he COULD care less, but if he did, it really wouldn't matter.... Of course, there really aren't any units that are measurable when talking about caring for the NBA playoffs, so this is really a moot point... Did I confuse everybody, yet?
