As per the title, just ran into Joey at the Shell gas station on old spanish trail and fannin. He was getting his white Escalade washed. Said, "Joey?" to him, I could tell he was somewhat surprised that I knew him. Asked him several questions: 1. What do you think of the picks? Said he liked them, Jermaine "needs to work on his shot" but he can certainly take it strong to the basket. Said he didn't understand why we took him because we had Von. He was very adamant about Von's talent and it seemed that he really wanted to keep Von. Apparently, a lot of teams are throwing money Von's way so we'll have to see what happens there. 2. Do you want to resign Ron? Again, very adamant about resigning Ron, he did say that Ron is asking for 12 million. When asked if he was gonna get that kind of money from teams around the league, his response was "hell no," which I found to be pretty funny. 3. Are we shopping Aaron Brooks? He kind of deflected this question because he was on his way out, but did not say we were getting rid of him. 4. The final and most incisive question. Do you think Ron and Tracy can coexist? I said to him it seems like Ron really dislikes Tracy (with expletives added for emphasis) and he seemed to agree to this but did not give a concrete answer. Most importantly he said they cannot coexist and believes Tracy will be the one to go. He seemed confident that Tracy will not return to the team. I let him know that we are very excited about his potential, that I saw the video of him working out, and that I hope he gets a chance next year. Very nice guy, quite a huge person, but not a huge ego which was refreshing. No I don't have any pictures, I did not want to be that awkward individual scrambling for a crappy cell phone picture, but this most certainly happened. That's all I've got.
I think it is etched in stone by now, Tmac is on the way out. I would be shocked if he stayed to play the full season.
gas station by UT houston, in the medical district. i'm not sure if U of H is close to there, though I don't think it is.
just wondering, you work there or were a customer too? Also, i think we all appreciate the info, but i always wonder if its better to just keep the name a secret, after a while they're not going to say ANYTHING to any fans
Awesome job asking questions... Sometimes our minds don't always function as quickly as we'd like in those situations and afterwards wish that we would have asked different questions. We need all you Houstonians to be on point for the rest of us. Great post, and thanks =) Let's have more of these!
Do not work there, was just passing through picking up a gatorade because it is so unbelievably hot outside. Yeah, I guess I should have taken a picture but what's the difference? It would be really silly of me to make up such mundane and obvious statements. Either way, next time something like this happens i'll snag a photo of him as he's walking away or something. I just feel foolish taking a picture of him when we are talking like normal people do, ya know?
Why would Joey say that Jermaine needs to work on his shot? His shooting across the board was 48%/38%/81% last year. And unlike a lot of players, that 3 point percentage is not misleading due to limited attempts. He put up 8 per game Draftexpress lists the following as his strengths... - Ability to create his own shot - 3 point range - Mid range jumper - Pull up jumper And then there's this interesting anecdote ... Obviously, the dude can shoot.
It was also really funny because I had in my mind a set of questions that I knew people on here would care about and the first thing I thought when I got in my car was, "I need to put this on clutchfans." Somewhat pathetic, but I love it.
I have no clue why he said that, I'm just reporting what he said. Maybe there is a problem with the mechanics of his shot or something that may have worked in college, but doesn't translate to the NBA? Your guess is as good as mine.
This seems like a direct contradiction. You asked him if they could co-exist, and he didn't give you a concrete answer. How can that be when he said they can NOT exist and that Tracy will be the one to go?
Hopefully Von will come back and taylor works on his shot in the summer league. I love guys that can take it to the rack for high percentage shot. Yeah many other teams seem to have gotten alot better but i think we have will get better if we go a head a resign Artest and wafer but 12Mil for artest? He has to lower that price otherwise we go sign Heido for 10 mil.
Sorry if I didn't make that clear. He did not give a concrete answer to Ron outright disliking Tracy, but he did give a concrete answer that he believes that two cannot coexist. Does that make a bit more sense?
You should have straight up told him you were from Clutchfans, and you needed a picture as per the rockHEAD rule. After that, you should have persuaded him to join Clutchfans, and told him that if he does, he would be starting next year, because of his newfound popularity. Seriously, with his personality, he would have done it! If I ever meet anyone from the team, I will tell them this.
Ehh. I have my doubts. How would Joey know anyhow? He was in the D-League or rehabbing all of last year. Ron and Tracy rarely saw the court together last year. While we may trade Tracy, if we can get value in return, I still believe that they could play some great ball together.
