I just upgraded my wife's vista machine with 7 ultimate and I have say I really like it so far. Its seems much faster and more responsive. It was a straight upgrade so all my apps are still functional and everything works like a dream so far. Photoshop and bridge runs noticeably faster.

I've been running the release candidate on my old laptop for a while and haven't had any problems. There was an old thread about this where several of us have been running it. The initial reviews on it seem to be pretty good. On the surface, it's not much of a change from Vista, but underneath it's been "improved", I guess.

i started an old thread (don't care to look for it) where I asked everyone about software for a new hard drive, including the OS, and i'm glad i was convinced to use Win 7 RC as opposed to Win XP. i've had none of the problems i used to have with Win XP, and have gotten everyone else in my family to install it on their laptops/desktops. i'm anxiously awaiting for October to come around so that people on the Interwebs will crack the full retail version.

I have a TechNet subscription I downloaded it from. You could download a copy of the RC from Microsoft's site for free (if that's still available). If you're talking about stealing it, don't ask on this board. :)

You still have until the 20th I think to get a release copy key. Ive been working with the 64bit for a while and I enjoy it as well. I still spend more time on my xp machine though.

So is like a demo-use right now .... you have to get a real one by March 10' ?

Is it better to buy the WINDOW 7 CD so you can re-install later.

I'm just worry if I just do an upgrade then later have problem with my computer I wont have a disc to re-install.

It's improved in the sense that there's far less hardware requirements to run it. I think MS is still boosting Vista as the premium brand though...

RC1 is identical to RTM. Plus, RC1 will have an upgrade to RTM option soon.

I got my copy through my msdn license. It was released yesterday for msdn and technet. After working with it for about a day, I have to say this should have been the original vista release. Its like they took vista and stripped out the underlying crap code.

Just installed it yesterday, and I've been spending a lot of time playing with it today.

    Love it.

They got it right this time in so many ways that they got Vista wrong...

The only major problem I've heard thus far is that 32 bit applications (like the ones that straight up wouldn't work in Vista) are run through Windows emulation rather than running natively.

I'm interested in y'all's impressions. I'm pretty open about the fact that I work for Apple, so I'm extremely biased towards Mac OS X.

As a general rule, I don't get into Windows vs. Mac arguments online, but if anyone has questions, email me through the BBS.

June 2010 is the current cut-off date when it'll start de-activating itself (apparently in the annoying form of shutting down every 2 hours). It's available to download until the 20th of this month.

It's up to you whether you want to download it now or not. I'm a formatting veteran with the amount of crap my machine has given me over the years so formatting doesn't even remotely phase me now. I just keep a mental list of programs that I use a lot and then I backup all my docs/bookmarks/emails/non-program files separately. I like it enough now to the point where it won't matter when June 2010 comes. It helps me prepare myself for it probably being $5000 to buy :)

It's definitely very sharp though. I was never a use of Vista, but from what my sources in the Pentagon tell me it's an ideal combination of both worlds (Win Xp and Vista). It's taking me a little bit to still get used to being prompted for permissions, but it seems like it's less than Vista (when I used it on my friends laptop a few times) so far. I love the simple features too like seeing how fast your hd data transfer rates are and how fast it's deleting or moving items per second. Maybe those were Vista features and I'm amazed by them with Win 7 RC but they're still neat :)

I dare say Microsoft has put out a product that doesn't completely suck :D

So far I haven't encountered anything that won't run on Windows 7.

A friend of mine had an old printer that he said he had to run in XP mode, but it's not like that was an entire application, it was a device driver.

I've encountered one thing, but that isn't Window's fault.

IT's Punkbuster. They have claimed they won't update drivers for a "beta" os. So it'll be all fixed when 7 is Officially released.

(this is for a few games like BF2, COD4....I believe there is a fix).

    Windows 7 FTW.
