That sucks dude. Hope things work out. One a side note. The government gives them millions in free money and they still layoff people. How is that for trickle down.
Thanks Rockbox. There was a rumored circulating the office b4 we departed ways that they were exploring the idea of laying off some SAP programmers & out sourcing their jobs to an IT firm in India. Now that was just a rumor.
Where at? There was no announcement by Halliburton. Large numbers? Maybe some of the other job threads could help.
if you go to the media and say that halliburton is doing some really incriminating stuff, you might be able to make extra money.
sorry to hear that , I feel your pain, I work IT in the oil&gas industry myself, I have had to branch out and learn geotechnical-type skills in order to stick around There aren't a heck of a lot of IT opportunities in Houston anymore but all of this is A-OK with our President http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72826
I think it's downright anti-american the way our jobs are being shipped overseas by these huge american companies who were made huge by our hard work and our hard earned dollars. It seems to me that we are caught in a viscous cycle here in the states because we cost more because we are forced to pay more for everything, I would work for 50 dollars a week if I could live on that. Who knows maybe these companies will pass these savings on to us in the retail market, very doubtful tho. I am not aware of any jobs being ?insourced? into this country and doubt they ever will, don't know how long this trend can continue before we start seeing some real problems in this country. Maybe I'm overreacting. Sorry about your bad luck bottlerocket, hope you're back on your feet soon.
I here you loud and clear, I and 200 of my fellow co-workers are being terminated by Halliburton on Feb. 15. Lucky another company has stepped in and will rehire us on Feb. 16, But alot of hassle with 401k, Insurance, Vacation and service time.
How about state-side manufactured foreign cars like Toyota coming to San Antonio, or Nissan in Tennessee? There is some going on. Remember part of the problem is still that while we only produce 20% or less of the world's goods, we consume over 80%. So per capita it actually may lead to a balance. But then I've been out of "official" work with any income to speak of for over 11 months now so what do I know. I feel your pain, bottlerocket. Things'll get better though. They have to.
I have worked in software development for an Irish company and a Japanese company in offices that they opened in the United States.
Got laid off from there in 2002. Manufacturing and energy aren't exactly booming industries right now.
Hope you can find a position as quick as I did. Laid off Jan 9 New Job Feb 5 Network, Network, Network. Good Luck.
Pretty good. Took me 2 months. There really are lots of opportunties out there. I didn't network though, I just spent all day on the internet e-mailing my resume.
