Man it is huge....I replaced a 20" LCD.....but this one is massive..... I just got it at Fry's for about $400 with rebate....it has a 5ms response time and is simply amazing.... I did have to move it back to the farthest reaches of the desk though. DD
Hey DD I just got the same Samsung 24" LCD monitor from my girlfriend for XMas. So that's how much she paid for it!! It's a lovely screen but my PC's power supply just died so I've only had a chance to use it for about a week since XMas.
I'll take your 24inch and raise you my 2 22inch Samsungs with 2ms response. That 24 is beastly though. But I love my 22's.
which ones did you get? i just built a new PC and can't decide if i should get 1 big monitor or 2 slightly smaller monitors.
SyncMaster 226 BW....they kick MAJOR ass. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001096 I got my 2nd one for $209, after a $50 cash back from paypal, and rebate from NewEgg. Pics: Spoiler Sorry for the hijack DaDa.
It is HD...and response time is how fast the monitor reacts to keystrokes etc. Uprising, you are not hijacking anything..welcome aboard. And the reason I went bigger was that I don't like having 2 monitors side by side and a line down the middle, I tried that....didn't like it. DD
Those are really nice monitors. I prefer the dual monitor setup because of the split aspect, actually. You can 'snap' windows to full-screen in each monitor (I also like dual monitors rotated so I can see more of a web page). There's a program out there that allows you to draw a 'line' down the middle of a monitor that will emulate the dual monitor setup I described above. All of that said, I'm suprised that you aren't using a jumbo Westinghouse as a monitor, DD. You're the Westinghouse king around here.
What does that even mean in terms of a computer monitor? First, you would need a video card, or external source, that can do HD out. Second, once you have a video card that can do HD out, then monitors upwards of 1900 x 1200 resolution can handle the signal...regardless of if it's HDMI or HDMI-to-DVI. Therefore, can't most newer monitors at the higher resolutions handle HD no problem? Aspect ratio is another thing entirely. While alot of flat panel/lcd monitors are widescreen, they are sometimes different in aspect ratio than 16 x 9 widescreen (e.g. 16 x 10). I guess you can just buy a HDTV and use that as a computer monitor...but that doesn't seem to be the norm and a HD source is required regardless. Also, wouldn't you get a weaker response time on a HDTV for situations such as computer gaming? Also, HDTVs don't necessarily translate into nice displays for displaying text from what I've read. Or, maybe that was more applicable to standard TVs? I just got a new 27" Dell flat panel. So, if you consider 24" big, then I must be doing pretty well. I thought it would take some adjustment but I'm already used to it. The only problem I have is my computer and video card can't keep up with it for running games at these higher resolutions. Therefore, I need to upgrade my computer hardware to reap the full benefits. My PC is already deafeningly slow for the times so an upgrade was already in my plans. At this time, I would consider getting a HD video card (or TV card as they call them). However, this presents its own problems in that now you have to run signal lines for the HD (unless you do strictly OTA) to your computer card now. I'm not sure I want to deal with all that given I already have a DVR-based HDTV in the same room. lol. It would be nice to manipulate TV on a PC or watch it in split screen while you do something else in the other screen but...not that nice. I guess I could always buy a Slingbox in that case (or similar product)...eh? I guess I could probably run component out from my HDTV to my PC if I want. lol.
Is $320 a good deal for this monitor? 22 in Dell SP2208WFP Wide Flat Panel Monitor http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&sku=320-6252&redirect=1
Yes, what is the refresh speed? The last 20" one I had was in the 8 ms range, this one I believe is 5ms...and it rocks, especially in gaming, my aim on BF has improved with it. DD
I'll agree about the line down the middle. i like having 2 though for when i'm watching a movie on one and the internet on another. Right now, I'm doing this and watching WVU vs OU in HD on the other. I run SLI for gaming, so I also have the 2nd hooked up to my cable box dvr (since in SLI you only have 1 monitor).
Nice monitor, basically the same thing as my samsungs. 2ms response. I'd go with the award winning samsungs though. Their LCD's pwn. I've seen that 24 Dada. Love it. Would have liked to have one of those, would be a bit of a pain making it fit on my desk though. I decided to go dual 22's when I got the 2nd for so cheap.
What is your model number? I think it's time to move my measly 17" Apple display over to my old Dell to replace the huge crt monitor. Then I could get a new monitor for my Apple. I'll have to tell my wife that my Dell monitor quit first though.
Look up a few posts, I put the model SyncMaster 226bw and the link to the monitor at newegg.com Give it a few days, and it'll probably be on the newegg main page with FREE 3 day shipping and maybe a MIR etc.
Duh...thanks. Why do you think it'll be a better deal soon? I've used Newegg before but not enough to know much about it. Right now it's at $319 with instant rebate.
I was just looking around and realized Im like the Samsung king around here. Got dual 19" Samsung LCDs on my wife's computer, a single Samsung 19" on my work computer and a wide 20" Samsung in here on this one. Then a 32" Samsung LCD, a 23" Samsung LCD, and a 50" Samsung DLP up front. Thats a ton of Samsungs folks. and for the record, every one of them have never given me a problem adn they all look great. and Dak, Ive had to dim every one of them...Samsung definitely likes to set em bright.
