Just for fun, or I have too much time on my hands today, I was looking for ways to utilize the Rox two TEs. 1 I call JoeD and offer the smaller Trade Exception and #32 (reportedly Pistons want to move up in the 2nd round) for Delfino and the #60. 2 I call Karl and remind him of how many 4s he has for so many committed $s etc and offer the larger TE and #60 for Najera. Najera is a solid rotation big, hustle guy, and one who would energize the local market. Since this is just for fun, I'd then worry about having added salary. So, 1 I call Paxson and sell him hard on the idea that at #16 he could not draft better than Stro. 2 I call the Draft Maven of Manhattan and offer the #16 and Howard for Q and Lee. Thus, I still have the #8 + Lee and Najera (instead of JuHo and SS) + Q and Delfino So, I'm stronger and deeper. And only about $2mm additional salary committed for '06/'07.
Real quick question... I know what TEs are and how they work. What I dont remember is how you aquire them. How are trade exceptions aquired in the first place?
Basically anytime we do a trade where we send out more money then we bring back, a TE gets generated for the amount of the difference + 100K. We got a $4.2 million TE when we did the Moochie deal because they were under the cap and could absorb Moochie's contract. It's slightly more complicated than that. We must have had a TE ourselves to cover Lampe's salary because the $4.2 million figure that I've heard quoted from the Chronicle and CD would be Moochie's total salary, not the difference between Lampe and Moochie. Here's a much more complicated (but more indepthly accurate) explanation of what I've described above: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#69
I like Najera, but he's making more than the 4.2 TE. He would be great. He's like Bowen 5.0. He only has 2 years remaining on his contract too. I would consider Stro for Najera straight up.
Greg Buckner is going into his last year of a contract (player option) at $1,845,350. He would bring us a defensive specialist at PG and SG, and a pretty good athlete with some nice 3-point shooting. Perfect bench guy for us. Is our smaller TE enough to get him? If I'm not mistaken, it's 1.7 mil, right? Or was it 1.8 mil? Either way, I'm not sure how the slight differences in salary are handled with TE's. It's not the standard 125% + 100k, is it?
quinton ross, greg buckner, luke walton, wayne simien, steve blake, travis diener. clips keep maggette and radman but do the clips thing and offload ross anyway even though he's on a min type salary. rockets also avoid the ex-clipper curse of big contract, player turns to crud. i'd assume the rest wouldn't be hard to trade for.
I realize that, but my post wasn't related to the original poster's thought. I've been thinking about the possibility of nabbing Buckner for the smaller of our TE's for over a month now. I just never felt like starting a thread about it to verify whether or not his salary works out. So if someone could still answer that, it'd be appreciated.
