I am just curious now to see how much people would rather have JVG over Adelman. I know I know, apologies to Clutch Crew if this fans the flame or is a tired topic.

I'm desperate enough to try anything right now, but JVG is so damn good behind the mic/camera.

We'd essentially be trading one flawed coach for another.

Although Jeff did coach the most exciting Rockets team of the last decade... the 05-06 squad.

With RA: We have top five offense

With JVG: We may have top 5 defense, but same # of wins.

I'll take RA's offense over JVG's defense (for this year in particular)....but historcally, RA's teams have been generally good in both areas, so I'll take RA pretty much over JVG anyways...

Oh god no. Jeff had his run never got us past the 1st round. Stick with Rick or rebuild the team and go with a young coach.

JVG- limited Coaching Ability- Defensive team nothing else- plays mostly old players, refuse to play and develop younger potential. :p

JVG had defensive players, Adelman doesnt.

If Adelman had JVG's players from back then, we probably get out of the 1st round.

Adelman has always had good defensive teams, but last two years, we have lacked size up front which makes our defense noticeably weak.

I'm a Van Gundy fan, but I don't think it would happen. I think there was a falling out between him and owner, but I couldn't say that with 100% certainty.

Also, while I think JVG is a great defensive coach, the Rockets have a different cast of players... and they don't have the Yao/Mutombo pairing any longer. Adelman did pretty well with that combo at center also.

I love JVG but he is not the right coach for this team right now. He is very much a niche coach IMO and needs an established group of veterans to work with, including a star player or two.

I don't think he and Morey would mix well because JVG wouldn't play guys like Patterson, Hill, and Budinger so we'd never see them develop or create value among our assets. If you complain about RA not giving players minutes, just imagine what it would be like with JVG. Lowry, Martin, Battier, Scola, Hayes, Lee, and Jared Jeffries would be our rotation.

Not to mention we went from having three pretty good perimeter defenders in Artest, Battier, and Mcgrady (when he cared) to one, if you still count an aging Battier. Rafer and Lowry cancel out defensively, but when you compare Martin, Budinger, and Brooks to that cast there is a huge drop-off.

Actually.. Martin may not even be in the rotation.. he doesnt like playing defense.

So maybe Lowry, Lee, Battier, Scola, Hayes. Off the bench with Jeffries, and go out and sign Weatherspoon, and Rod Strickland (Or Mark Jackson). Martin would come in for garbage time.

The reconciliation still obviously depends on if he's now willing to be "more Phoenix-like"

I think he can be like Alvin Gentry - don't you?

Actually, this sounds like a great rotation to stick to for now. I'd place my money that if this rolled with a 8 man rotation, we'd be winning more games than today. Add in Miller to the mix and that's it, more chemistry.

Hell yeah I would. I rather have a strong, tough defense then a pansy minded team that just tries to out score you. You win with defense, not by looking pretty and scoring 100 points or more.

this. I don't know it either, but why do all of us like van gundy so much?

I don't know, when he was coach i never seemed to doubt him and thought he was super badass. Rick, i always seem to get pick flaws out on.
It might just be personality, jeff is a really loyal guy he suppports houston till this dauy

He could get offensive minded players to play defense, when he's had players with offensive talent his teams haven't been grind it out, see the 05 Rockets.
