First off, I am not thrilled with Moiso. Isn't he the player that was not getting any better and left school before his stock dropped or was that Rush? Since Miles will most likely be gone by 9 and Swift much earlier I would love to see us get Johnson. The kid has great athleticism and can stroke the ball. He can also be had at 9, which is most important. I wish that we could get Stevenson too, maybe we could parlay a couple of players for a 15 pick? Is there any way that Stevenson could play the 3? ------------------
no stevenson is 6'4 6'5 but you gotta look at it like this...hes got a 43 inch verticle leep...he is very young (coming out of high school) so he will grow to i say 6'6. He cant play sf now but in the future i say he can. I say we pick HIM with the 9 pick in the draft looking at his extremely high ceiling and god given talent..they say he is as ready as any of the high schoolers coming out and that he has bulk...you cant package anything for the 15 pick cause orlando will take him wiht the 13 pick... ------------------
DerMarr Johnson would be my choice above Moiso, Miller, Alexander, mabey even Miles. At 6'9" he has a good vertical leap (I read on draftsource.net that rumor has it Johnson impressed the Hawks scouts by touching the top of a 12'6" pole off a running start), he can take his man off the dribble, and he has excellent range with his jumper. He's still rail thin and could use some improvement defensively, but I'd take him in a NY second if he were available at #9. Problem is IMO, he may well be gone before #9 (to Atlanta, Chicago or Cleveland). Furthurmore, he is a tweener at SG and SF and I'm afraid the Rockets have their heart set on a PF. Finally, any threat to Mobley's playing time by drafting a SG/SF is potentially a threat to resigning him as a free agent. I cant see that we will be lucky enough to draft Johnson (but I hope I'm wrong)! ------------------
Stevenson will be a nice player and he will grow a couple inches. Plus he can maybe grow a fro which will get him a little taller. Dermarr Johnson is a really nice athlete and I was wondering, since Dermarr is good freinds with Steve and he is from DC, do you think rudy should draft him if he is there? ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
The Rockets aren't high on getting a power forward, they are high on Swift. They already have a power forward (KT) who is as good as anyone after Swift or Martin. If they could get an upgrade over KT, then they'd want one. They'll want a SF, and they really hope Miles or Miller will be there at #9. I don't know if they think they could convert Johnson into a SF, but I'd definitely take him over Moiso, if I was the Rockets. I'd take Stephenson over Moiso, too, although I don't see converting him into a 3. He'd be future trade bait. For the Rockets, Martin, Swift, Miles or Miller are the players worth getting in this draft. After that, you go to role players. This is actually a deep draft for role players, well down into the second round. If those guys are gone, I'd rather trade down a few and get 2 players. There are a lot of trade possibilities for the Rockets at #9, if those guys are gone. That means that the best 3,4 and 5s are gone, but the best 1 and 2s are still there. Other teams will want to trade up to get them, if they have that need, and the Rockets will have to make that decision on the spot. They should trade for a lower pick, and a pick in next year's deeper draft. ------------------ the more I know, the more I know I don't know...
Francis3, that's a good point about DerMarr Johnson being from DC and friends with Steve Francis. Johnson might fit chemistry wise!! I'm thinking Johnson bulks up and plays SF (because Williams and Bullard's legs aren't getting any younger). Also, if we did loose Mobley to free agency, we would need someone to back up Shandon Anderson. I'm just not too excited about Miller (to slow to run with the Rockets) or Moiso (weve already got a Carlos Rogers). One things for sure, I agree with Sherlock in that the more I know, the more I don't know about this draft. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Swami (edited June 11, 2000).]
